Email Spam (As Opposed To Hormel's)

Post by Mad Mikey » Sat Jul 12, 2008 3:53 pm

I'm not going through 50+ pages of threads to see if a spam thread is already here. Flog me for starting a new thread uselessly if I have. Harder, baby, harder!

I registered here last night and have already received many unwanted spams at my email, unlike before last night. Is this typical?

I have kept one that makes me smile. I haven't opened it. Never do. The subject line cracks me up, that's all. Has anyone else received this one? It comes from Tole and the subject line is "Woman gets humped by bears".

C ya when I c ya. Mikey

I've been registered here with an email address I don't use anywhere else and have not received any spam. The email you register with isn't published anywhere or available to anyone but admins, and we certainly aren't selling email addresses. I suspect it's merely a coincidence of some sort, but if you want to PM me I can look into it further.

Hi, Dork. Gee, that doesn't sound right. Hmmm. Thanks for your response. I am not upset or complaining about the spam stuff. I've received spam at this addy for years now, but not so much in a 12 to 24 hour period like this, so it made me curious. I think 8 have come since last night. No need to think about it further, and if this is a needless thread please remove it. I wouldn't suspect an upstanding organization like this to do any of the things you list as things you don't do. But, maybe a registered user or someone else worms there way in and sends crap to folks here. That is why I asked if anyone else got that particular email. Cool. Thanks for replying. Mikey

No problem, and no reason to delete it. There could be a software hole allowing spammers to harvest the forum. I'm not aware of anything like that, but it's always a possibility.

Spam in general does tend to pick up on Friday nights because IT folk aren't around to shut down access and modify filters.

I have been using the form for a while now and I don't have a problem with spam. Did you make your e-mail Addy available on your profile at first then change it? We do have spammers look for Addy's in profiles sometimes.

Hmmm

Post by Mad Mikey » Sun Jul 13, 2008 12:43 am

None of these last replies came to my email. Ass-backwards. The issue, if there ever was one, is over with. No new spam. Yea!!! And, no, I did not place my email in the public eye when I registered. I took a 'wait-n-see' approach. I guess I done right.

Now leave me alone. I'm trying to masturbate to porn spam.

I've never had a problem.
I think everyone should enable their email on the profile.
It says it shows your email, but it doesn't.

Did that change? I thought you use to see it on the member list? But you are right I don't see it.

You may be thinking of the websites people put on their profiles sometimes?

Dumb Is What Dumb Is

Post by Mad Mikey » Sun Jul 13, 2008 11:22 pm

Maybe it's a dumb question, but I'm full of 'em. If enabling our emails in our profiles does not make them visible to others what is the purpose in enabling them?

Someone here sent me a private email. I have yet to discover how to do that. If the need arises I will hunt day & night until I learn how to. That means it is not necessary to publicly post email addresses, so long as we can send private msgs to whom we wish to.

On the other foot, it would make it a hella lot easier on me if you all would publicly post your email addresses so I can sell lists of them to AOL for promotional purposes.

Enabling your email allows anyone to email you directly, but your address is not visible to them unless you email them back.
I prefer this to the pm system.
It puts an email button on your posts and profile.

OK, Bucko, I enabled email. See, I'm not that difficult to get along with regardless of what you've heard about me. Bloody assholes are always talkin' shit about me behind my back. It's even worse when they do it to my face.

Anyhoo, I think I'm up to date now for the moment. Yeeee haaaa!!!!
