An Official BM Song?

Post by Mad Mikey » Fri Jul 11, 2008 9:30 pm

I am not sure if BM has an official song or music. I have a suggestion for one if one does not already exist. I am going to get a lot of flak for this suggestion, I know. I accept that. I welcome that. I'm getting a boner just thinking of it. The song I think fits BM well is unfortunately a commercial song by a commercial band that many of you may not even know of. Aside from that, they are a bay area band that were at the forefront of the 60's scene, including that whole summer of love thingy. With the death of the 60's came the death of their artistic side and they went mainstream. I'm talking about the Jefferson Airplane/Starship. In 1982 they released the unremarkable album Winds Of Change. The title track's lyrics seem to me to fit very nicely with the Burning Man event itself. I am including the lyrics here. If you are unfamiliar with the song and would like to DL it, I recommend trying Limewire online. I also think it would be cool if someone (I'm too dumb to know how to) could take the intro music (the mystical sounding part) and extend it for 3 minutes or 3 hours and play that all day and night at BM. Here are the lyrics (copied off a Word doc, so I hope it works):

"WINDS OF CHANGE" by THE JEFFERSON STARSHIP

Walk softly through the desert sands
Careful where you tread
Underfoot are the visions lost
Sleeping not yet dead

Hang on - Winds starting to howl
Hang on - The beast is on the prowl
Hang on - Can you hear the strange cry
Winds of change are blowing by

Mountains crumble and cities fall
Don't come to an end
Just lie scattered on the desert floor
Waiting for the wind

Chorus

You got your life planned carefully
But you left out one detail
The hidden hand deals just one round
And the winds of change prevail

Chorus

Walk softly through the desert sand
Old dreams lead the way
Nothing new in the sands of time
Just changes every day

Hang on - It's starting again
Hang on - There's no shelter from the wind
Hang on - Like a fire from the sky
Winds of change are blowing by

I am a writer by nature, so I write too much, I know. Hi, everybody. Cheers. Mike

Well OK it talks about wind a lot... but I think it sucks and has nothing to do with Burning Man!

I vote for "C is for Cookie" by Cookie Monster!

I thought the "Hokey Pokey" was the sanctioned dance and music for the event. You can't change it now. Come on, the "Hokey Pokey" is what its all about.

Oh Well

Post by Mad Mikey » Fri Jul 11, 2008 10:22 pm

Oh Well is a song by Fleetwood Mac. I suppose you all hate them also. Why the hell did my post include that innards shit instead of colorize the font? Ugh!!! Makes me look like a doofus. Oh wait, I am a doofus. Anyhoo, I see there must not be a thread for an official song yet. What have I started? And this is like only my first hour as a participant here. Of course Winds Of Change sucks. It's a commercial song. If a song gets airplay on commercial radio it automatically sucks. The thing is, no commercial radio station would touch that song now with a 10-foot... so that sorta makes the song cool in a perverse way. 'Sides, regardless of the song's intent, it DOES fit the theme of the event. That's all I was considering. I had no idea you people were so fucking opinionated. Oh wait, yes I did. And I love you for it.

My Last Post Of The Night

Post by Mad Mikey » Fri Jul 11, 2008 10:26 pm

I'm writing this then shutting off Hal for the night. I was told I had to include a subject to add a post/reply. So I did. In my last reply I began by saying Oh Well is by FM because "Oh Well" was my subject line. Now I see no subject line mentioned with my reply & it makes the first sentence of my reply seem totally lame. Shit, fuck, damn. Being new sucks.

Well that's a big stanky load of doo-doo with green steam rising from it. You're more opinionated about this than we are!
And on top of that, YOUR opinion is WRONG!
And I don't get how that song fits the theme of the event.

C is for Cookie fits quite well, as does the Hokey Pokey!

I lied. I didn't turn Hal off. I'm addicted to Hal. I need help. Anyone got a blunt they wanna smoke w/me? I'm fresh outta blunt 2nite.

Aye, aye, Capt, indeed I am opinionated, but that's just my opinion...and yours apparently. You seem to be a big fan of commercial radio, so sorry if I offended you. I haven't listened to radio other than jazz in some time, so maybe commercial radio has become really excellent recently. My bad.

The Hokey Pokey & Fuck You, I'm Drunk probably represent BM perfectly, but lyrically I have thought Winds Of Change fit the theme. Maybe saying it fits the theme was the wrong wording. The song speaks of desert, wind and fire from the sky. Hmmm, does that sound familiar? But thank you for the flak. I'm as hard as a rock now.

Johnny rocks! The man in black earned his stripes (or feathers) like few in celebrity circles do. His final CD was pretty good. "When The man Comes Around" was very good, though, he sings about a father hen in it.

Hip Hip Hippity Hop, Let's All Do the Bunny Hop

Post by gyre » Sat Jul 12, 2008 11:11 pm

There is a song called "Burner Girl" or something like that, recent.

I vote for Bunny Hop as the official song.

I love Fleetwood Mac, but I like the early Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac.
My Heart Beat Like a Hammer has some great slide guitar on it.
Green replaced Clapton in Mayall's Bluesbreakers before forming Fleetwood Mac.
Great fucking blues!

The best version of Moneymaker anyone has done

Poor audio, My Heart Beat Like a Hammer

Not a bad choice, Barbie.
I always heard the Van Morrison version though.
I went to a Melloncamp concert once.
Seemed to be quite a few women there.

Somebody on the crew offered us tickets and no one else would take them, so I went.
He actually does a pretty good show.
Better live than recorded.

Not terribly unpleasant being surrounded by women either.

I met John Cougar- after a show in Las Vegas Tiger Jam; Tiger Woods puts it on every year. that year Match Box 20 was opening - at the Top of Mandalay Bay Hotel in a private club.

I had gone by myself ( last minute deal didn't have a ticket) and as I was walking out of the bathroom - My X boyfriend (of 5years) was standing there and said are you going to show - I have an extra ticket - sooooooo
I ended up sitting with him, his friend and his friends girlfriend....
when Match box 20 sang- hows it gonnna when I don't know you -
It was so surreal sitting there with my X.

Anyway I got really really really depressed and really realy really drunk... Went up to the private club and walked right up to John Cougar and his HOTTIE wife, and his guitar player and asked " why don't you guys play Ani't even done with the night " the guitar player spoke up and told me "because we HATE that song" soooo I Love a tall smart mouth musian when I'm drunk and depressed - sooo we drank way way way to much gambled and went back to his Hotel Room...

Okay I know Slutty move... I don't remember his name-
but The NExt time 2years later- I saw them in concert in Seattle they played - ain't even done with the night -

Confessions of a las vegas slut... lol

In my line of work I've met several famous musicians, in situations that have nothing to do with music, and Kenny G stands out as the biggest little fucking prick of all.
Steve Miller might have been the nicest.
Kenneth Gorelick.... "Kenny G"... absolute dick.

For The Hell Of It

Post by Mad Mikey » Sun Jul 13, 2008 10:57 pm

Nothing new is directed at me here, but what the hey.

John Cougar still has a couple of my fave songs - Cherry Bomb, & Rain On The Scarecrow.

That's cool to have his guitarist. Since I was a kid I thought Barbie was a slut. I think it was the tits. All slut.

I don't like him artistically, but if I could I'd spend the night in Justin Timberlake's hotel room. Oh yeah.

Steve Miller is way cool. Maybe "Livin' In The USA" can be the Burn theme song. Oh wait, I was thinking "The Love Shack" by The B-52s would make a good theme song since you all seem to only have partying on your minds and have basically poo-pooed my original idea of Winds Of Change. Or, when I get to BRC next year I can build a love shack. Hmmm, that little light bulb may have legs. The shack can resemble the Bev Hillbillies' shack. I'm liking this more and more as it sinks in. And the only thing in it can be a porta-potty. My own private Idaho. Soundin' better by the minute.

Has anyone ever erected a full-scale windmill at BRC that can generate power to run things? Seems like a good way to go.

Oh, and if I can't dance am I still allowed to there. I really can't. I have 3 left feet. Seems like a good place to make a total ass out of one's self.

"How'z It Gonna Be" is such a good song. I love when it changes up. I really love the line, "I wanna taste the salt of your skin". That is a very romantic line. OK, it's a good line when I'm horny.

Yes there were 3 windmills a couple years ago- I don't know if they were used for a power source....

Speaking of songs- I was on the playa when they were putting together the windmills and the guy couldn't quite reach to put up the last blade...

Soooooo they called over an art car to use to stand on -they got the windmill together -
then the art car played the Gorillizas - Feel Good Song it was the first time I heard it and It WAS Perfect- (as is everything on the playa)

It starts windmill windmill

Yes, I'm aware that they were SWU at one point, but they had been BOC for 10 years when "Burning For You" was put out, thus it was done by BOC, not SWU.
