Ali and Clay are the same person. BOC and SWU had different band memebers and were different bands.
It's like saying Green Day and Foxboro Hot Tubs are the same band. Yeah, they have the same singer, but they are not the same band. Green Day did not make "Ruby Room" and FHT did not make "American Idiot".
You're wrong. Get over it and move on.
Ooooo! Now THERE is a theme song. Green Day - American Idiot.

Arrrggg!! Avast ye fucking fluffy bunny shirtcockers! Haul your drunken hairy fat ass out of our sight or prepare to receive a hot buttered hedgehog fired up your aft quarters!
Honey Badger don't care. Honey Badger don't give a shit!

BOC II
My thought on BOC/SWU was that even by the late '70s they were known to play small venues as Soft White Underbelly until word got out and they probably had to give that up for safety reasons (at least temporarily).
I saw them new years eve 1979/1980 at the Cow Palace. They could rock. There was a large Godzilla behind them the whole set and at midnight during "Godzilla" it shot rather large flames out it's mouth. I was kind of surprised it didn't set the roof on fire. They were one of those bands who didn't sell a whole lot of records but could fill arenas no problem. Sammy Hagar was another. After the new years eve concert I don't remember hearing anything more about B.O.C.
I have been told by more than one person that Sam Kineson was indeed one of the nicest people. He was funny, that much I knew.

Maybe you see the red balloon, but all I see is the coming monsoon.
I'm On Fire
The "Man" himself can have a theme song - "I'm On Fire" by Springsteen.
Bruce's little sister lived around the corner from me in San Mateo when we were in high school. I can't remember her first name now. She was a total snob. She had a bit part in "Fast Times At Ridgemont High" then disappeared into oblivion as far as I know. She didn't look anything like Bruce. She looked like Pat Benatar if I remember right.

one of the pat benetars in fast times. ha!
Mad, I can imagine in all the chaos that is BM hear the man sing "i'm on fire" to himself in that low key way.
...I concur on the pseudonym SWU/BOC shows.
SWU is to BOC as Clay is to Ali
..still love you capjbadger, and your avatar.
buster poindexter. the most annoying song in the world. "feelin' hot hot hot"

Queensryche, a late 80's & early 90s metal band, created a song called 'Burning Man' that's on their Q2K album. Here are the lyrics:
(Verse)
Miles of desert fly, the quiet of dawn.
I ride the winds of morning to see the man that's burning.
(Chorus)
Burning Man
(Verse)
Miles of desert fly, the quiet of dawn.
I ride the winds of morning to see the man that's burning.
(Verse)
In my head I hear the song a million voices strong.
I feel the heart of conscious returning, that's why the man
is burning.
(Chorus)
Burning Man
I feel the heart of conscious returning, that's why the man
is burning.
(Chorus)

FloBots: "Handlebars"
I can ride my bike with no handlebars
No handlebars
No handlebars
I can ride my bike with no handlebars
No handlebars
No handlebars
Look at me, look at me
hands in the air like it's good to be
ALIVE
and I'm a famous rapper
even when the paths're all crookedy
I can show you how to do-si-do
I can show you how to scratch a record
I can take apart the remote control
And I can almost put it back together
I can tie a knot in a cherry stem
I can tell you about Leif Ericson
I know all the words to "De Colores"
And "I'm Proud to be an American"
Me and my friend saw a platypus
Me and my friend made a comic book
And guess how long it took
I can do anything that I want cuz, look:
I can keep rhythm with no metronome
No metronome
No metronome
And I can see your face on the telephone
On the telephone
On the telephone
Look at me
Look at me
Just called to say that it's good to be
ALIVE
In such a small world
I'm all curled up with a book to read
I can make money open up a thrift store
I can make a living off a magazine
I can design an engine
Sixty four miles to a gallon of gasoline
I can make new antibiotics
I can make computers survive aquatic conditions
I know how to run a business
I can make you wanna buy a product
Movers shakers and producers
Me and my friends understand the future
I see the strings that control the systems
I can do anything with no assistance
Cuz I can lead a nation with a microphone
With a microphone
With a microphone
And I can split the atoms of a molecule
Of a molecule
Of a molecule
Look at me
Look at me
Driving and I won't stop
And it feels so good to be
Alive and on top
My reach is global
My tower secure
My cause is noble
My power is pure
I can hand out a million vaccinations
Or let'em all die from exasperation
Have'em all healed from their lacerations
Have'em all killed by assassination
I can make anybody go to prison
Just because I don't like'em and
I can do anything with no permission
I have it all under my command
Because I can guide a missile by satellite
By satellite
By satellite
And I can hit a target through a telescope
Through a telescope
Through a telescope
And I can end the planet in a holocaust
In a holocaust
In a holocaust
In a holocaust
In a holocaust
In a holocaust

"Burning Man" by Queensryche (haven't actually heard the song, but here are the lyrics:)

Otherwise, if not Solsbury Hill, my vote would be Baker Street:
"And when you wake up it's a new morning,
the sun is shining it's a new morning and you're going
You're going home." -Rafferty

It's a decent song, I'm going to have to add it to my Burning Man playlist for enjoyment on the drive and on the Exploratorium.

LOL! Far out. You must be the OTHER remaining Queensryche fan. The Missus owns all their stuff including the CD singles like "Scarborough Fair", except for that album.
The YouTube videos aren't of sufficient quality to tell whether it's a good song but I have to wonder if was inspired by BRC experience or some totally remarkable coincidence.
Another one that strikes me is Milk of Heaven by Floater off of the Burning Sosobra album. I've played this for some burners and they got all teary eyed. Gives me goose bumps too; goddamn great record, -great- NW indie band. Check out the album cover: http://cdbaby.com/cd/floater4
"No, don't seek control, and the Milk of Heaven will flow
Why would you want to keep it from anyone?
Please, please, on my knees
My heart is on my sleeve
And all I need is just one little taste of it
And all my kingdoms rise when I'm dreaming
We lie on the grass
Just soaking in the life of the land
So high, God rest our souls
you cynical would not understand..."
The whole Sky Cries Mary catalog reminds me of Burning Man also.

I'm a huge fan. I wish they would re-release 'Operation: Videocrime' on DVD, it's only found on VHS. I think they had to have gone to BRC at least once to write that song.

Whatever
When the hell was "The Streak" video made? It can't be from 1973 or whenever.
To Gyre: Thank you for the Peter Green's F.M. video links.
"Shake Your Moneymaker" is truly great in that vid. The Hammer one is very good also. "Like It This Way" less so. The Peter Green update link is interesting also. I didn't know he had been that active in recent years. Nor did I know he was on "Brown Eyes", a Christine McVie song that is really boring but I really like anyhow.
The band performed "Brown Eyes" on their Mirage Tour in 1982. During part of the tour McVie & Lindsay Buckingham experienced laryngitis and altered their Oakland show. From that came an incredible rendition of "Brown Eyes". It was so spacey. I wish I could find an audio of that.
Too bad the original band has not reunited for a concert/video. They could probably make a small fortune if they did. They still have quite a following.
I s'pose "Oh Well" could be a Burn theme song too. Or a "Man" theme song. His legs are pretty thin.

I'm pretty sure it was just a Quixote reference, but Sputnik would know for sure.Barbie wrote:Yes there were 3 windmills a couple years ago- I don't know if they were used for a power source....

Home
I see two recurring themes here from you folks - party time and being home. I assume home is BRC or the Playa. Well, it just so happens I wrote a song a few of years ago called "Home" and I would like to share the lyrics with you all now.
In usual fashion, I have to blather on for a bit first before I share it. "Home" was conceived one night while listening to Zeppelin's "When The Levee Breaks" in the headphones. I was listening & decided I wanted to come up with something off the wall in the same vain. About 30 minutes later "Home" was born.
I write songs, but I cannot read or write music and I cannot play any instruments. I'm a lyricist only. To some that is only a notch above letter-to-the-editor writer, but oh well.
So, "Home" was inspired by "Levee Breaks", but is not written to that sound or Plant's vocals. In fact, the second verse is, in my mind, more sung by a vocal similar to Steven Tyler's - loud & raspy.
Also, as it so happens, my signature here is a lyric from this song. I love when things come full-circle.
"Home" by Mad Mikey
December 2003
Took the long way back
through the forest thick
somewhere lost in the middle
burning to the bottom of the candlestick
sheets of rain piercing my brain
anti-viral solution of the serious strain
strain to see through the glass
chompin' the bit as the hours passed
slow, whoa, only way to go
better slow down too fast
Gotta make it home, home in one piece
passing by the gnome in the lot that's for lease
home, make it home in one piece
before we miss out on the whole festival feast
Maybe you see the red balloon
but all I see is the coming monsoon
Waves of emotion when the moment won't come
living all alone with the willing lonesome
fire in the belly, fire in the pit
the dog won't listen, damn dog won't sit
shakin' like a leaf your head in disbelief
can't get no sleep, ain't gettin' no relief
like your breakfast in bed, make that dinner instead
how ya ever gonna get ahead when your head is filled with lead?
smokin'!
Gotta make it home, home in one piece
passing by the gnome in the lot that's for lease
home, make it home in one piece
before we miss out on the festival feast
home - make it home in one piece
before we miss out on the whole festival feast

can't beleive someone didn't beat me to it, but the ULTIMATE Burning Masn song is Mark Silverman's "Burning Man Sucks, Don't Go." Google will point you to Mark's page in which he has a videoclip. The chorus is Burning Man, Burning Man/Used to be so cool/Before they Went and F**ked it up/With All Their Stupid Rules.
A typical verse is: "My first year at Burning Man I had a lot of fun/Idropped a lot of acid and I shot stuff with a gun/It made some people nervous/But for me it was a thrill/I don't know if anyone got hurt, but nobody was killed."
I had never performed a song in front of anyone in my entire life, I even got nervous playing in front of my pet. But somehow I was talked into playing it on the main stage at Colorado's Apogaea in 2007. What they didnt tel me was that I was the opening act, the first to go out. There I was with my guitar hunched over a microphone I forgot to adust playing in front of 600 people. I have never been so nervous in my whole life. Though the song has exactly three chords (C, G and F for your musicians) I managed to forget them halfway through the song, but I played it off as a dramatic acapelo verse and then remembered the sequence. Good news? I got a wild standing ovation.
I mentioned this to Mark when I saw him at Burning Man last year. He was easy to spot as he had dressed himself in Tony Munero Saturday Night Fever white leisure suit and black shirt half undone. I was thrilled to meet the master. The only downside was he didnt know I was joking when, after telling him my Apogaea story, I asked him about how to go about paying him royalties.
Mark, if you read this...thanks for a truly hilarious and true song. And I was KIDDING, I know you wouldn't try to collect royalties off a free performanc of a Burning Man song.
We have an obligation to make space for everyone, we have no obligation to make that space pleasant.
