WHO has monkey math??
hey oneeyeddick::
1300km = about 808 miles. most of the rest of the world uses metric, monkey boy. time to catch up with the new math.
but thanks for the public service you provided to your fellow americans.

Ok, it's going to be around 13.000 miles (round-trip) and I admit that I have to fly the better part of it - just can't swim across the Atlantic... He whoever guesses first where I am from gets a free beer - yeah, the good one from where I come from...

we're in vancouver, bc. it's about 1300km from my place to the playa, not including the driving around in towns along the way. we could do it in about 18 hours, but we take 2 1/2 days of camping and driving to make it more sane. that also gives us time to stock up on cheap american booze and other treats we can't get here. this will be my car's 7th trip to the playa. i think it can get there on its own now.
see you on the playa!
Oh jeezuz, here we go again...
Attention all Canadians !!!
Most american vehicles no longer have the metric speed in the speedomters of our vehicle,
thus we have no reason to learn what a kilometer is.
If you are going to use our time system and and tell us how many hours it takes,
please convert your monkey math into miles so that we know how far that is.
.......................Thank You
Dear oneeyeddick,
I hate to say this... But it is quite easy to convert Kilometers to Miles! 1.6Km=1 Mile. I've driven in 5 different countries and the US is the only one that uses Miles. {Sigh...}
Um, time system??? Uh, 1 Hour in the US is 1 hour any where else! {grin}
I'm not going to say anything else... My grandma told me not to say anything if I could not be nice.

This year isn't so bad, I'm flying to Sacramento to help drive some gear to the Burn. Last couple years, I was trying to work out making it to the Burn from Japan, but couldn't swing it. The plane ticket alone was killer...

It's not enough that you want us to use monkey math conversion charts to tell how many miles are in a Km ??
Now you expect us to multiply ...USING DECIMAL POINTS !?!?!
You may have driven in 100 other countries that use metric...but this is the only one where you don't have to use a calculator to figure out how many miles it is from point A to point B.
It is nice to get it right the first time, now isn't it ???
(If we are the only country that uses miles....then why does every mexican I know use miles instead of Km ???)
We have an obligation to make space for everyone, we have no obligation to make that space pleasant.

i remember the big metric push during the mid to late seventies....
it failed miserably.
i'm glad too, eventually, the rest of the world will get with the program....or else.
yeah, that's right, keeping the world free from hectares and millimeters.
