TENTS GAH!!!

Post by Hot Guava » Tue Jul 15, 2008 12:07 am

So the last two years (my first 2 years) i had problem off being really hot when i woke up in bed and this year i am trying to fix that problem as much as i can this year

So far the only idea i think that has been any good is to get a tarp or a painters drop cloth and put it over the tent and rebar it down to the ground so it cant fly away it the storms then on top of the tarp i would i think duck tap down a couple emergency blankets (because they bounce heat off to)

If any one has ideas or thoughts PLEASE post them for us all to read

and on other thoughts what is the best stuff to sleep in (blanket or sleeping bag)

and should i sleep on an air mattress or the ground i could not make my mind up if it would be a pan in the ass to keep the air mattress pupped up all the time

How to keep my van cool.

Post by Harpman » Tue Jul 15, 2008 10:38 am

This year I am thinking about just camping in my van. It is actually insulated inside. It has no Air conditioning but will probably turn into an oven by 9:00 AM under the hot Playa sun. I will probably just move outside under my shade structure made of Camouflage material (Time tested bu7rner shade device) but, would like to hear any ideas on keeping the van cooler.

I have a regular commercial van with no insulation. Louise and I tape aluminum foil on the inside of all the windows, and it remains cooler than ambient air all day in the sun. Your mileage will vary.

The van is white, which I think makes a difference.

In 2006 I saw a single tent that was covered in "reflective car sun shields"... They were stitched together and put over the tent like a tarp. I am not sure how effective it was but I am sure it worked very well, reflection of the sun keeps things much cooler. :)
