It might help if you give us some clue as to what an r100GSPD is and why you think it might not be a good idea to take it to the playa.

The r100GSPD is the "new" next generation Honda generator.

I didn't know they were out already.

I bet they probably cost a bundle.

he's refering to a motorcycle....air cooled...like mine. BMW if i'm not mistaken.

i have a 1973 Honda CB750k with 4 into one and after market yum-yums.

i would NEVER take any motorized object to the playa that i didnt want to be PERMANENTLY altered by the dust...

it will fuck shit up i dont care how clean your filters are, and how careful you might be...

if you love this bike, dont bring it.

Well....? What is it? An airplane, a generator, or a motorcycle? Not that I know the answer to your question regardless, but now I'm curious.

if it's a motorcycle, you can't ride it in the city - it'll be a playadune in your camp by the end of the week...

GS on Playa

Post by Ranger Fuzzy » Fri Jul 11, 2008 9:57 am

I ride up every year on my R1150GS. You can't ride on Playa during the event (you can off-season, and it's a trip), but the ride up is wonderful. GS's are supposed to be a little dirty, right? And, hey, if you decide to ride, come by Outpost Berlin and find me for a beer!

Great Motorcycle tip -

Go to Uhaul, or another mover and buy the biggest mattress bag. Most motorcycles fit in one with no modification, and you can seal it completely shut.

Outpost Berlin

Ranger Fuzzy

Where will Outpost Berlin be located? I did not see it listed as a regular theme camp. Are you in with another group?

R1200 GSA here and plan to ride it across country to get there.

had never thought of mattress bag trick....Fucking Great idea.

might actually do the haul from Upstate NY, near Buffalo, one more time, on My 73 cb750.

just for shits and giggles.....and i'm an idiot with bigger balls than brains.

will be going down the 80 to save time, possible sidetrack to the 90 for badlands sightcruising.

anybody else making the trip around the 20th cross this great nation on their way to the american dream, let me know via pm and maybe we can make a gang of it.....

Wow, yeah! Awesome idea!!! Ya know, I could actually *do* that... and the matress bag will pack down. Just make sure you get one wide enough to clear the handlebars and cylinders...

I would suggest rigging for a small trailer to haul your shit out there. Yeah, I know, a trailer on a bike, but relying on the ice melt from week-long arctica purchases and living on nothing but dehydrated reconstituted crap, while in a minitent with no shade, well, it'd quite rather suck. I rather prefer having things like water and shade (and extra gas to get out of there on) and stuff...

But ya got me really thinking about this one now. Solves the one hitch I always had - keeping the bike somewhat less dusted. thanks!!

ahem The correct phrase is motorcycle oriented social organization.

That joke predates SNL by quite a bit.

A guy who came on a BMW motorcycle was camped next to me last year, and it sucked to be him! Tiny tent, no shade, very little food, not much to drink, no washing facilities, etc. If I was gonna ride a bike or even drive my Miata to BM I'd only do it if I'd made arrangements to have my stuff carried on someone's truck.

Yuppers....Capt GD....

highly recommended. if you can get your shit into one of the containers that locals and regionals have organized, then pick it up on playa it is SO MUCH BETTER (logistically speaking) than trying to carry everything on the bike.

or perhaps, pay some camp dues to some camp so your essentials will be covered (water, food)

also, i highly suggest an extra gas tank (even a small 2 gallon is great)for the ride out during exodus.

so many people every year run out of gas before they even get to gerlach.

it can be a LONG wait.

good luck amigo, i hope to see you there and one more bit of advice, if you are heading west on I-80, DO NOT STOP IN WINNEMUCCA, and DO NOT LISTEN TO THE LOCALS WHEN THEY TELL YOU JUNGO ROAD IS A SHORTCUT....

it is a death trap.

been there, done that, almost died.

I'd double-bag it, as dusty as it is this year.
