Canadian chick travelling solo looking for a theme camp

Post by Indigenous Alien » Sat Jul 12, 2008 1:04 pm

I am a young single Canadian woman flying down from Toronto for my second Burn; last year I had a great time camping independently with a few friends, but this year I am looking into joining a theme camp with like-minded souls, to facilitate my voyage to BRC. I was thinking about joining Couchsurfing Camp, but they don't provide anything in the way of meals or water.

A little about me: I'm really in to the arts, writing, spirituality, self-development, dancing, funk and soul, burlesque, electronic music (EXCEPT TRANCE), travelling, communication. I'm not the handiest person in the world but give me a task and I'm happy to help in any way, have a lot of experience at community gatherings, festivals and other events that involve pARTicipation. I'm not really into drinking, so a camp that's all about partying might not be the best fit for me.

I went onto the BM website looking at theme camps, but there are so many to choose from and some of the camp dues are really expensive. I'd like to pay no more than $200 in camp dues. Meals, water and showers would be nice to have, but they're not totally necessary...I'm open to suggestions. Anyone?

I'd take another look at those camps that have higher dues.
Those camp dues are usually very legitimate, no one is making money off them. From my experience running a large theme camp, the ones in charge generally lose money.
It costs someone a lot of money to truck all the comforts of home-on-the-playa to Burning Man. I'm one of them, I know! I could set you up with meals, shelter, and hot showers, but it costs me around $2000 to do this just for myself!

I understand. Maybe it's unrealistic for me to expect to have my cake and eat it too; and believe me, I appreciate all the effort that goes into creating those kinds of camps as well. As I said before, I'm flexible when it comes to camp dues. It's just a question of, where do I start?

After Sasquatch festival last year I have seen that Canadians are crazy patriotic. It shouldn't be hard at all to spot any of them on the playa.

Just look for the maple leaf. or the smell of canadian bacon.

My Dad was born in Newfoundland, Canada.......so I guess that makes me cool, eh?

Hon, check out Costco Soulmate Trading Outlet. We have tons of canadians from Victoria, and our fees aren't too high. See our post on this board or email me at knife at toaster dot net.

I know some people who camped with Opulent Temple and their sister camp (can't remember the name right now). I thought they provided everything for about $200 plus you work a couple shifts. If you don't want to work, you can just pay a little more. This info was based on what I faintly remember from a year or two ago, so don't count on it, but it may be worth looking into. I don't think you'll find much better deals unless you get yourself a sugardaddy or momma.

Try Lamplighter Village. Lots of Canadians there... Not only an amazing full on volunteer experience, but with their shade structure and kitchen it's an great spot for those flying in with limited gear. They work hard, but the perks are great.

Beware the bar tho...your job in the bar is to encourge others to come volunteer for a night, so the bar can get well....festive...by times. Especially so during the recruitment parties, the Sangria Soiree ( Monday night) and the Bloody Mary Brunch.( Wednesday at noon).

das Hooch.
