Costume Help!

Post by Pink Daddy » Wed Jul 16, 2008 1:14 pm

I have a costume and it's missing a very important key feature...

I want to make a rosary with the BM logo instead of a cross. But, all of my pendants have a painted logo or something similar. If someone has an amulet that would meet this purpose, could you please post a picture of it so I can use it for a template? Basically, I'm looking for a picture of a metal, wooden, or plastic BM pendant that is just the logo, no background, nothing else.

Thanks for the link. I was searching the photos, but I guess I missed this one.

That was the easy part...

Update! ...for those that might care...

This is the pendant that I created. Now it just needs to be painted white and attached to a rosary.

A coat hanger, nylon cording, and guitar strings. Being the Navy geek that I am, I know how to make that double helix pattern with the nylon cording around bent and cut coat hangar parts. The guitar strings hold it together.

Unexpected introspection is caused by some posts here....
I am ok with doing all sorts of things with the American flag, but
my first thought when reading this thread was "DON"T MESS WITH THE ROSARY"!!!
Guess I am more Catholic than I thought......

I suppose you'd find out Holy Water flasks disturbing. I'm no where near Catholic and I felt odd dumping out the water the monk at the Abbey had blessed for me when I bought them.

I am not catholic, but I decided against purchasing a rosary and cutting off the cross and replacing it with this figurine. Somewhere in my mind, I thought it was a bad idea. So, instead, I went to Joann's and purchased some string and beads. I spent a considerable amount of time picking the materials and it's construction is a little bit more time consuming than I was expecting (this is probably the most time-consuming project I have for this Burn, not counting camp work). So, even though it'll look like a rosary, it actually isn't.

Hopefully this will cool your slow boil.

no slow boil here....
What the Rosary means to me, it does not mean to others...
I wonder how many times I inadvertently used some other cultures sacred symbols just because I thought they were cool and pretty?
Like Indian symbols or Asian.
No harm meant by me, and no harm meant by you, most likely.

Update, for those who might care...

I've finished the rosary. Even though it's all complete, the BM figurine doesn't match the necklace portion. I really wish I could get my hands on a silver BM figurine. It would be perfect for this. BTW, click on it for a larger picture...

Just FYI, a rosary is not a necklace. ;)

One of the constant conflicts of Burning Man is whether what you wear on the playa is a costume or whether the actual costume is what you wear back home. My theory is that what you wear at Burning Man _should_ be a reflection of who you are, hence not a costume.

Twenty bucks US plus shipping. I count three dozen different instruments, but I may be wrong. A glockenspiel IS heavy metal.

Hey!! I remember those!!

Clipped from some pot or pan or another, and topped with a little scrap from an old Thermos. The lettering was made with an alphanumeric punch set. With a couple of simple tools you can make playaschwag right on the actual playa- I can show you how if you'd like. Perhaps you could make your little Man from flattened and polished silver wire...

I seriously doubt that people run around, at home, naked in gold glitter paint or assless faux fur chaps.

Well, maybe at Marti Graz...

I went to a Catholic military funeral for an uncle who was SgtMajor of the 8th Infantry Division and won medals in three wars. His wife of 58 years is Roman Catlic and the service was as expected.

I don't go to church except when relatives have weddings or funerals, but some dude showed up to the funeral in jeans and an Indiana Jones shirt and I wanted to smack the guy. I thought about that for awhile. Then the priest said "If you've never been in a Catholic church before, let me start by saying this: Relax." Not bad for a mackerel-snapper. ;>

At the end of the church service the priest said "Normally at we conclude by burning the traditional incense, but Bob hated incense so much that he would get up and leave whenever we did it. We're not going to do it today." So I pretty much decided to forego writing his name on the temple this year. :>

I guess the priest didn't want your uncle to get up and leave. :->
