Camp site location

Post by bpeele » Tue Jul 15, 2008 8:07 pm

I have 10 people in my camp. What is the protocol for picking a camp site? First come, first serve? Or can you reserve a spot if you are of a certain size?

I appreciate any help you could provide - thanks!

Unless your group is a placed theme camp, and you'd know it if that were the case, it will be first come first serve. You will be given a map; the places you can and cannot camp will be marked. Find a likely spot, talk to the neighbors, if it seems good, that's your place. If you have a lot of vehicles, park and ride around on bikes to find a place. The ends of the city will be louder, the back of the city might be less crowded and quieter, or maybe not. If it is dark when you arrive, park and try to find a good place in the daylight.

By the way, take special notice to where AntiM says "talk to the neighbors first". While it is first-come first-served you should always ask if the spot you found is taken. It just comes down to being a good neighbor and if you pulled out the old, "The rules say....." and plop down your shade structure anyway then it's likely that something bad will happen to your stuff when you're gone. Asking before you plop down your camp is a good way to meet the neighbors to make sure that they are people you want to camp next to and to make sure you aren't intruding on someone's camp (or a theme camp).

Above all, don't worry. There is plenty of space for us all at BM.

I didnt want to start a new topic for this...and this seemed like a good spot to ask.....

If i were giving someone a ride up, i can drive them to their spot , unload, then drive to my camp right? I mean no ones gonna be like "You already parked, you have to stay there" eh?

Drop-offs are just fine. Happens all the time. Just remember to try and drive the 5 mph or so that it takes not to kick up too much dust and to avoid all the bikes and staggerers.

Mid-week one of our rangers had to go into town for an emergency phone call and drove our Trailblazer in and out, no question. Of course, we had it parked where it could be moved, i.e. not an integral part of our camp/shade structure.

I was part of a 25 or so person unregistered camp for several years and we never had any real problems with space. The first people there would get the shade structure up, talk to the neighbors, and corrall off an area big enough for everyone with neon guy-line. No one ever got cranky at us for saving spots or tried to throw their tent up in our area. I have heard horror stories about people setting up tents and getting confrontational when told the spot was reserved, but I think those instances are pretty rare.
