Question about Health Codes (food)

Post by Chentelle » Fri Jul 18, 2008 10:14 am

I would like to bring snacks that I made at home and gift them if the spirit moves me to do so. Would I need to have a health department permit for this even though I am not running a camp that distributes food?

Don't advertise that's what you're doing. If you're giving a friend some food, you don't need a permit. Even if it's a brand-new friend.
Although if one of my playa elders disagrees, don't discount his/her advice.

Serving food prepared at home to the general population is a huge NO - NO. only to camp mates.

Food prepared on the playa, according to rules, with a permit is OK

Inspectors must see the food preparation area, sanitizing, cooking, storage, thermometers, records of sources, etc.

For many years we served espresso and always got a permit, but never saw an inspector. Last year they were all over the place.

Espresso Camp and our neighbor Camp Nosefish got the highest possible grade "no recommendations"
