Looking for GPS coordinates for center camp...
Greetings,
Could someone in the know of the layout plans plans provide the GPS coordinates to two reference points from the new 2008 pdf map?
The exact center of the The Man and Center Camp would be great but any two that are known for sure on that pdf map would do.
I'd like to make a base map for my Garmin Rhino and having these coordinates will allow me to translate the new pdf into a full map. I'll be sure to post a link to it when completed for anyone planning to use such devices.
Alternatively and even better, if anyone has already converted the new 2008 map into a Google Earth KML file that would be great to have.
Thanks.

No one knows exactly, even the people in the know don't yet know. Know what I mean?
Sometime in early August Maid Marian and her jolly band of DPW workers will head out into the Playa and pound in the Golden Spike.
The Golden Spike is the center of the map where the man will be built. After that the team goes and lays the city out based on this single reference point.
Once those who know get the data, the word gets out to those who know the ones who know and are connected.
Go here since the Garmin base map has been published for years:

Which one do YOU have? I'm a 130 Man, myself...but those new color displays are tempting.

Token, thank you for the info, that was just what I needed. I have contacted William, the author of a 2007 Garmin GPS map about his plans for the 2008 changes and I'll let you know what I find out. It sounds like he is already working on it and we can all just use his work when it is complete. He has links to others who have the 2008 map going in google earth-maps already as well.
And and Robot I be bringing a 130 and two 530HCx's.
I'll update this post when I hear back from William on his map.

Please ask him what datum he's using. His current map doesn't line up with either of the two approved locations on Google Maps.
Does anyone know what datum google uses for Maps and Earth?

My 2008 Garmin map should be pretty accurate. The only thing on it that is completely made up is the road from the 12-mile playa entrance to the greeters area. It was added because I intended to get routing working this year, but have been side tracked and haven't had time. The rest of the information came from the city planner.
The current map is at: http://mapcenter2.cgpsmapper.com/mapview.php?id=1836
The 5-year permit that the BLM issued to Burning Man last year defined 3 sites.
1. Site A (2005 location if I recall correctly) suitable for cities <= 40,000
2. Site B (2007 location) suitable for cities <= 50,000
3. Site C suitable for cities <= 50,000.
This is presumable the previously unused Site C, and the city will now alternate between Site B and C.
Additionally, since the original message says "feel free to distribute this," here is the information as I received it. There are a few mistakes in it.

GPS Maps
I loaded the GPS map of Black Rock City onto my GPs but when I did it erased all my city select maps and Topo maps. Is it possible to have the BRC map and the topo map on the GPs at the same time? I am using a garmin 530HCX with a 1 MB Micrs SD card.
Thanks!

Do you REALLY need a Garmin to navigate BRC? Leave your technology in the default world dude. unless it makes music, or lights up or throws flame or something useful like that.
To err is human. It takes a computer to really screw up.
