Dennis Erectus For President, A Hard Man To Beat

Post by Mad Mikey » Tue Jul 22, 2008 12:21 am

For those of you near my age or older, and lived in the San Francisco bay area in the 1970s or 1980s, you might be familiar with radio station 98.5 KOME in San Jose. I discovered it in 1978 and was quickly a huge fan of Dennis Erectus, their evening DJ. To this day he was one-of-a-kind. To me, he is a legend and always will be. His delivery and talents were unmatched. KOME itself was pretty awesome, but for me it was always Dennis Erectus at the mic that made it magic.

In 1980 he ran for president. The subject title of this post was his slogan. I still have a button that proves it.

Today I decided to Google his name and see what came up. Sites came up both for him and the station. I was saddened to learn that on Thanksgiving night in 2006 he suffered a massive heart attack and has been recovering ever since. The newest info I could find was dated October 2007. There are more sites, but I only had so much time to look then. I just thought I would pass on this news to anyone else who has been a fan of his.

Maybe you see the red balloon, but all I see is the coming monsoon.

Oddly enough, I did this a few weeks ago. I don't remember him (I've never been able to deal with commercial radio) but a friend was interested.

His motorcycles weren't bad, either...
