New to BM--Question about Theme Camps
New to BM--Question about Theme Camps
I am new to BM and am very excited to finally be able to attend! My friend Bill and I have tickets, plane tickets, we still need to sort out a few things. We were thinking about participating in some sort of camp, something that provides food. We are flying out and are prob taking the BioBus to burning man, so we can't bring a lot of food, etc. with us. We were trying to find out abt different camps that provide food and water and shade, and I have heard participating in a camp is a good way to do that (not to mention a great way to participate). Bill (my friend) suggested Entheon or Autosub. I'm a vegetarian, a hardcore ultramarathoner, traveler, librarian, writer, feminist, fairy-wing wearer, dancer, hula hoop lover. Bill is retired 57 yo free spirit who loves to travel, laid back, up for anything.
So how do we pick a camp and figure out the details?

Hi cherie,
Check out the 2008 Theme Camps section of the board and see if anyone is looking for members. You can ask the camp(s) you're inerested in and see what happens. Be prepared to at the very least work very hard to cover your way if they decide to let you join the group. Also, most camps require paying camp dues along with the working hard. It cost lots of money and effort to set up a theme camp and in order to have whatever infrastructure that the group desires, everybody’s got to pitch in and contribute.
Personally I don’ t like the idea of simply plopping down some cash to get most of my stuff hauled in for me. I feel it would detract from the whole expierience for me, but I understand that many would disagree. And for many coming from afar its the approach they feel to be the best or only way they can do it.
Good luck and enjoy the dust!!

We got a call today regarding exactly how much space we needed, but no official placement yet. I guess we were originally signed up for a 50 x 100 space but they wanted to know if they could expand us out to 100 x 100. Sounds great to me, but now we need to build more stuff so there isn't a big empty lot next to us.

It's a little further out than I like to be, but about what I was expecting considering the relatively small stature of our camp.
