Late or early arrival

Post by Tungstiny » Sun Jul 27, 2008 1:20 pm

My party and I are driving 2000 miles to BRC and are calculating our arrival time. Between what hours will we be directed to the overnight roadside camping area (or conversely, between what hours can we proceed directly to our little semi-permanent slice of playa?)? We are looking at 26 hours of travel time and wonder when, if ever, the line at the 6:00 entrance is best navigated? :?:

If Im not mistaken, gates open at 12:01 am monday morning. Personally, I'd head up towards Empire and Gerlach at sunrise..great view and you can see the cows that may be wandering across the road. Not to mention stopping at the Empire store, for that thing you thought you packed.
anything worth doing is worth overdoing..

If you come thru the BRC gate at night you can usually proceed directly (and cautiously) to your permanent camp site. If you don't know where you'd prefer to camp, find a place to park for the night away from the flow of traffic on one of the outter ring roads. Wait for daybreak to select your spot. No need to rush...the place is hugemongous. You'll have plenty of time to find a great spot in the morning.

I've come in during darkness on 3 trips and no one has ever DIRECTED us to park it...but we do slow to a crawl. It is very dark, and if it's your first trip it may be a bit confusing. We just park it and for those who are still awake, unass the rig and head for the nearest set of bright lights and music and get in a little partying!
