Planning on staying in Kidsville? Beware!!! You Must Read!!

Post by we0ne » Thu Jul 24, 2008 12:10 pm

Hey all you burning families with kidletts. You may have read on the website that all families with kids are welcome to camp in kidsville. Well that's true but with a catch:

Kidsville is a PRIVATE village like any other on the playa and YOU MUST PRE REGISTER PRIOR TO AUGUST 1ST in order to have a place in our village or you will be told to camp in the public camp spaces. We are huge this year (Yay!!) and we don't have the space or the infastructure to be cramming people in at the last minute, we really don't. As well, kidsville takes a lot of prep work and pride in our organization for the kids and their families with regards to activities, community guidelines and most importantly the safety of our kids. There are important "rules" for kidsville that you need to be aware of before showing up on the playa. Remember, the name of the game is PARTICIPATION and that starts long before the event goes public. So, want to camp in kidsville? Join us online at [email protected] BEFORE August 1st. NO EXCEPTIONS!!

Don't make us have to say we told ya so!

Cheers,
Skyneedle

skyneedle-is there anything that non-campers can gift towards your efforts?? My kids aren't going and we are not camping with any that I know of, but I know that I am going to miss my children terribly, (not all the time of course hee hee), so to see a few happy faces dancing with a popcicle or something, would help this mom out! ha ha
see you on the playa! :D

Hey Twinwitin,

Just come on over and say hi. We are always happy to see visitors "sans" children too. If you have access to any cool art cars come on by with them, the kids love to see the vehicles or if you know of any "kid friendly" camps or activities, come to our info kiosk at Kidsville and jot them down on our "Things to do" board. Look forward to seeing you.

Cheers

HI Cassidy,

Usually around 5:00, but not certain of the cross street this year yet. If you are worried about "stepping" on a weone, as we all are from time to time, come by kidsville and get your certified, playa resistant, child ray. If a child is spoted approaching you or if it's dark and you are worried they may be under foot, just initiate the ray in the suspected direction and BLAMO!! A large glob of neon gunk will be discharged and land directly on the child, so as to make them not only noticable to everyone within 200 feet but also immobile for exactly 4 minutes. Just enough time for you to evacuate the area. This is 100% guaranteed!!

Cheers,
Skyneedle

I love kids, in a non-creepy I don't own a white van sort of way. I can't wait till I have my own so I have an excuse to camp in Kidsville. They're so much more fun than adults... Especially on the Playa. The year my friends brought their four-year-old was the year I had the most fun in BRC. Plus kids are a fucking shwag magnet.

One year I had a long conversation about Jello Biafra with a 12 year old who happened to notice my Dead Kennedys t-shirt as he rode by on his BMX. Someone had schooled that kid!

Hey, lesbians are popping out babies all over the place. They're worse than heteros. The only difference is that we do it on purpose, when we're ready. I, personally, am ready now but I want to be a little more financially stable before I become a parent. I was a welfare kid with four siblings. Raised dirt poor in the Ramen for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, living in a two-bedroom single-wide trailer with no refrigerator sense of the word. I think it made myself and all my sibling into responsible, self-sufficient adults who are incredibly greatful for everything we have, but I still don't want to put my kids through anything as horrible as wondering if there's going to be anything to eat that day.

Hey, that's a great idea. If we do this preventative maintenance, maybe we don't need the child rays after all, eh?

The First Mate loves little people, and we can fit a whole bunch of 'em on the boat if it's cool to take some for a ride (I imagine along with a guardian or two or three from your camp). I know I would have liked riding in my boat when I was a kid... hell, I still like it now!

Hey Captain,

WOW, thanks so much for the offer. Of course the kids would dig it, you bet. You could just drop by anytime and there will always be eager kids and plenty of adults to chaperone. There are well over 450 people in our village this year so you'll be appreciated for sure.

Thanks

I hope you can come up with some more legit reasons.

Rather reminds me of a baby boomer straight gal saying she wants kids so they all can hop in an SUV and look cute going to Disney World . . .

I'm sure those are just fringe benefits she was talking about.

Yeah. And I'm sure it was more of an emotional response on her part rather than a practical response. Sounded good and full of warm fuzzies, but they must be separated.

I don't know if those are "legit" or not, but they are real reasons. I appreciate her honesty, and I'm guessing that there's some solidity to her interest in children.

I have actually had a hand in raising a child, and I find it to be amazingly rewarding. I dated a woman who already had a two-year-old when we got together. We lived together for a long time and even after we broke up the kid still called me Mommy. Unfortunately, said ex-girlfriend was a bitter bitch about the break-up and I haven't gotten to see my little girl in a really long time (gay lovers don't actually have any rights when it comes to children). I wanted kids before all that happened, and even though it was a really rough experience it did convince me that I was capable of child rearing, and that it was something I enjoyed in reality, rather than just enjoying the idea of. I don't just want kids so that I can buy an SUV and take it to Disneyland, or whatever was implied previously. I don't like SUVs and I'd much rather take my kids to Burning Man than Disneyland.

Thanks for the clarification, Jez.

Yeah, being around kids that you love without a committed LTR is really hard, and can be harder on the kids. And that goes for straights as well as gays.

Hope you have a great time in Kidsville and get to spend some time with kids back home.

My niece will be arriving into the world in November. I'm trying to convince my sister that Burning Man would be lots of fun with kid-in-tow next year, but I don't think she's buying it. She's an amazing person, but she's not a Burner by any means. He husband is though, so I'm hoping he'll rub off on her.
