What are you listening to right now?
A Couple Of Things
OK, a bird moving into this neighborhood mocking car alarms and sirens would have to be shot, then stomped on and beaten with broomsticks until even it's feathers are unrecognizable.
We have lots of magpies here. They are way cool.
Now what the hell is the other thing I was gonna say?

Maybe you see the red balloon, but all I see is the coming monsoon.
The Other Thing
Oh, oh, "A Mighty Wind". You really ought to rent it. DVD if you can for sound quality reasons. I think it is right up your alley. The whole film is about the musicians & the music, and they play a lot of music throughout.
They have an accordion player. Hmmm? Hmmm?
Plus, it is hilarious at times. One of the better films of this new century.
Go 'head, go 'head, give it a spin. You'll thank me. Or not.

I Hope You Will
I hope you'll find the time. I think you'll get a kick out of it. See if IMDb has reviews of it. I imagine they are pretty stellar reviews if there are any.
I have Bob Segar's "Night Moves" album, but I don't think there's any connection.

Attended Artown festivities concert Andrew Bird. He is an incredible performer. He started by playing his violin, recording it, then played it back while playing more violin. Then he would strum his violin like a ukelele, then pick it like a guitar. All the while he is recording and playing back and mashing it all together beautifully. He is a fantastic whistler - he whistled for most of some songs and it was so wonderfully rich and tonal. He played with xylophones. No horns this time. He had beautiful gramaphones (sp?) in actual use. Broken violin and bow strings by the end, of course. Definitely worth seeing.

If she keeps complaining tell her I'll call her and tell her how I used to walk barefoot in the snow five miles to school every day, uphill both ways...
I once killed a grizzly bear with my looseleaf notebook.
The phone had a dial, as I recall.
Quite large enough to serve as a murder weapon in a mystery.
We had to change the black and white farnsworth by hand.
And we had four channels, all dead by midnight.
Mobile phones weighed 150 pounds and cost as much as a car, and had to be wired to one.
You could get her one of those phones that will only call her parents?
Probably worse than not having one?
Or an early cell phone, maybe?
They were superior in sound quality anyhow.
Plus you could drive nails with them.

Mad Mama's Blues
Wanna set the world on fire
That is my one mad desire
I'm a devil in disguise
Got murder in my eyes
Now I could see blood runnin'
Through the streets
Now I could see blood runnin'
Through the streets
Could be everybody
Layin' dead right at my feet
Now man who invented war
Sure is my friend
The man invented war
Sure is my friend
Don't believe that I'm sinkin'
Just look what a hole I am in
Give me gunpowder
Give me dynamite
Give me gunpowder
Give me dynamite
Yes I'd wreck the city
Wanna blow it up tonight
I took my big Winchester
Down off the shelf
I took my big Winchester
Down off the shelf
When I get through shootin'
There won't be nobody left

Oh know! Now I have to listen to it again! That's pretty freaky Bowie!robotland wrote:"Also Sprach Zarathustra", the Deodato version. (The one used in "Being There".)
"Vampire Weekend"
"Sky Blue Sky" by Wilco
,,,but I had to put myself on a "Flight Of The Conchords" diet...I was listening to "Bowie's In Space" almost constantly.

David Bowie - The Man Who Sold the World
I just got it & have never owned it before. Last night was the first time I've ever listened to it - while making my own rock n' roll refrigerator magnets from pictures I cut out of old Rolling Stone magazines. I first got turned on to the title track from Nirvana's Unplugged album. I understand Bowie made this one right before Ziggy Stardust. Mick Ronson & Bowie rock out pretty hard on this album.
Gyre,
It's funny, but I was just thinking about The Man Who Fell to Earth, like, two days ago. I'll have to watch it again for myself. I have to say, I love Bowie's Low album from that period - very trippy.

When boyhood's fire was in my blood
I read of ancient freemen,
For Greece and Rome who bravely stood,
Three hundred men and three men;
And then I prayed I yet might see
Our fetters rent in twain,
And Ireland, long a province, be.
A Nation once again!
And from that time, through wildest woe,
That hope has shone a far light,
Nor could love's brightest summer glow
Outshine that solemn starlight;
It seemed to watch above my head
In forum, field and fane,
Its angel voice sang round my head,
A Nation once again!
It whisper'd too, that freedom's ark
And service high and holy,
Would be profaned by feelings dark
And passions vain or lowly;
For, Freedom comes from God's right hand,
And needs a Godly train;
And righteous men must make our land
A Nation once again!
So, as I grew from boy to man,
I bent me to that bidding
My spirit of each selfish plan
And cruel passion ridding;
For, thus I hoped some day to aid,
Oh, can such hope be vain?
When my dear country shall be made
A Nation once again!

Gram Parsons w/ The Flying Burrito Brothers - Live at the Avalon Ballroom 1969
The Band - Music From Big Pink
Pretenders - their first album, Pretenders, and the second one as well, Pretenders II. Chrissie Hynde is fucking awesome!
Genesis - Live Over Europe 2007; Abacab; Duke; Three Sides Live; The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway; Invisible Touch (this last one is so-so).
I've also been listening to a lot of Genesis lately. I have a new-found appreciation for these guys that I didn't have earlier in life. Since they never fully indulged in the "rock & roll lifestyle", I essentially thought they were a bunch of effete wusses. Now, I realize that they were more commtted to their music than to the excesses & indulgences of rockstardom. They definately made some good music too.
