Early Entry Traffic?

Post by capjbadger » Tue Jul 29, 2008 10:43 pm

I got a pass to come in early this year to help out. The plan is to get in either Saturday or Sunday (23rd-24th). I've never done this before. I assume I go to the regular gate right? And will the traffic be hell from 10,000 other people waiting for the gates to open Sunday night?

Advice from people that have done this before?

Is just like getting in after open gates..except you get a neato little wrist band, and you're allowed to leave the city without paying.

and it's alot quicker

Sorry! *scurries back into his burrow of knowledge*
hahaha I never claimed to know everything, just a lot. ;)

Ok, cool. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't going to run into a huge backup on 447/34 while trying to get in. No point of being there early if a traffic jam is keeping me from getting to the gate.

Rude? Oh! No greeters. Of course.

Gate: "You can't come in!"
Badger: "Yes I can. Here's my ticket."
Gate: "You're too early!"
Badger: "Here's my early entry pass."
Gate: "What is that thing?!"
Badger: "My Mutant Vehicle. Here is the pass for that too."
Gate: "What's the average airspeed of an unladen swallow?!?"
Badger: "Depends on how hard you throw her while she's swallowing."
Gate: "Wait.. what?? Ewwww..." *Is flung into firey gorge*
Badger: *Drives on*

hehe

It depends on how "early" you are getting in. If you are on a list that gets you in before midnight on Friday/Sat am, there should be no line at all. There is a bit of a wait if you are in the group that is allowed in at midnight that Friday night, but it is NOTHING like the opening night crowd.

I've been getting in early for a number of years and I have never had anything but a great time with Gate staff - give them a beer and tell them you appreciate them, they have a really tough job this year.

Good to hear. The plan is to get in about noon-ish on that Saturday.

Noonish on Sat should be no problem at all. That's about what time I've arrived the last few years, and I've yet to sit in much of a line. The sunday traffic is not there yet, so it's just the early arrivals. There's not that many, and tipically they know what they are doing, so it's a lot easier on the gate staff.

....Aside from the passless people trying to get in early, that is.

There is a "special" parking lot just for them. I had a several hours long experience there one year when one of the people riding with us did not show up on the list. It was like being exiled to Siberia.

Happened to us a couple of years ago too. No fun. I do like the new way of doing it - Scanable passes instead of name lists. Much more beterrer. *nods*

There were enough people in coventry last year that it was the best party going for awhile.

Little frustrating though.

Thanks to a bus adopting me, my ride could go ahead.
Didn't have to wait long, it turned out.

If your arrival time slips to after 6 or so look for me at the gate, CB, as I'll be working then and can always use a beer. ;)

Got a preference in beers? :)
Even if my timetable doesn't slip (heh, That'd be a first), I'll try to head over to the gate around 6 to say hi. :)
