Where are the Rockers, the musicians, the blues folk?

Post by Harpman » Fri Jul 25, 2008 9:33 am

I play a mean blues rock harmonica and also sing. I'm looking for a camp with an amp. So to speak. In 2006 I hung out with HOTD, but they don't seem to be very active this year on Tribe, and I'm Wondering if they are gonna make it.
So anyway, any rockers out there? I'll be happy to make a contribution to the bar too!
If you wanna check out my stuff, you can hear samples of the album here ;http://www.cdbaby.com/venicebluecats
So, hit me up. send me an e-mail
Rock on!

Music on the Playa

Post by LeadingMan » Fri Jul 25, 2008 11:58 am

Hey all - I'm a 1st timer and am coming with 3 other members (one of which is my wife) of our A Capella group (Custom Blend) - so we plan to sing through the Playa. My wife also sings lead in a blues/rock band. I'm sure she would love to jam with you guys. How would we find you?

And.. Anti M - how would I find the Golden Cafe.

The Golden Cafe is a placed theme camp. When you arrive at the Greeter s(Not the Gate, the gate takes your tickets and searches your vehicle) ... at Greeters you will receive a map and a Where what when guide. On one or the other there will be a list of theme camps and their playa address. Golden Cafe is generally on a corner and quite simple to find once you get the hang of navigating the city.

Hushville, where I am, is usually just a block or two from the Cafe. Long, long blocks, but still kinda close.

The easiest bet is to go to www.goldencafe.org/announcements/ and just sign up for our announce list - you'll get the scoop on our 2008 location pretty much minutes after we do.

Occaisional live blues at Shadebearers Temporate Zone

Post by Journeyman » Mon Jul 28, 2008 1:23 pm

Shadebearers Temporate Zone will have amps onhand, a couple cheap guitars and bass, PA with mics. Need a drummer or ten to bring drums. Location still a secret, but look for a floating origami-like pavilion tent, white in the daylight, all colors and patterns at night, with some emanation of green laserbeams. I do bass, guitar, and vocals. Used to run jams a few nights a week, played major festivals, competed in Memphis IBC, got a couple chops. I've been pondering on a blues/trance format for awhile, and what better place to find similar interest? I don't schedule times for performing, just show up and we'll jam, if I'm not out carrying a big umbrella to share on the playa. Better when the sun gets low. The usual ambient music in the Zone will be a subdued mix of... well, just come by and have a beer or a cocktail with us. There will be a couple evenings dedicated to blues, fo' sho'.

Hey, Harpman
If I can bring all the abovementioned shit, why can't you bring your amp? Most harp amps I'm used to seeing are relatively small rigs... and then you got the guys who insist on a Bassman... but a Blues Jr. works well, or a tiny little old Silvertone... you don't know how many times after loading and unloading vans that I wished I'd taken up harp instead. You guys got it easy.

Hey Journyman, Yeah, I always bring my Roland Cube with me to BRC. I strap it to the back of my bike and run a cable up front to my Blues Tube mic so I can play on the fly. The amp is cool for small venues, but, I usually just play through the PA on the larger stages.
So, Ill add you to my now growing list of places to play.
Thanks!
And thanks to you folks who took the time to listen to the sample cuts from my album.

Wish you could have made the blues festivals we used to put on.
All early blues people, mostly dug out and found.
Some hadn't played in many years.
A lot of them started new careers from the shows.
Even found a woman who used to play piano for W. C. Handy.
We had Mississippi Fred McDowell on stage before he died.
And so on.

Silicon Village was right across from me last year. They had a cool venue (HotD maybe?) that had rock music going all night and day. Everything from full bands to improvisational jams to an open mic. It was real refreshing after being immersed in the oontz for a while (no disrespect to the electronic musicians, of which I am akin, but rock and roll is a precious commodity out there). Anyhow, I believe they're around 6:30 and D... doublecheck to make sure tho.

Hello all!

Gosh...my very first post here. How exciting! Anyhoo, I'm a musician. I'm part of the "Merkin Dream" theme camp. We'll be playing live, and encourage folks to join us in creating some musical mayhem. Let's hook up on the playa! We'll be situated in the 4:30 & Gremlin area. We'll probably haul our gear out into the wilderness at some point, so we can get good and crazy.

I'm interested in finding some jams, specifically blues, out on the playa. Sounds like there are some interesting and talented folks wanting to link up and I'd be interested in meeting up with you. I'm a guitarist and am planning on bringing my own powered amp. I played with a band 'Native Root' a few years back: http://www.myspace.com/nativerootmusic. I'm more old school blues focused now and would love to find some traditional jams or open psychedilc if anyone knows where to go! [/url]

C'mon by, I'll have some cold ones for ya (drinks, dude, the women are HOT). White origami not-teepee, 20 ft. high, 40 ft. across. Lots of blue and white umbrellas.

Bassist looking for folks to groove with!

Post by dreysgroove » Tue Aug 19, 2008 10:06 pm

Hey there, I'm a bassist, been playing professionally for 20 years, looking for some folks to jam with at the Burn! My favorite is groove-oriented, funk, soul, R&B, simple pockety stuff, not a showboater, just a solid player with great time. I've played plenty of blues and would enjoy a few good shuffles too, so if anyone is open to me sitting in, let me know? I can bring my bass amp if necessary. Thanks!
