Detroit first timer

Post by ludeless » Fri Jul 25, 2008 6:49 pm

Hey! Finally have made the decision to FINALLY make the trip out to the playa this year. Been lurkin on the site for a while but it's time to come out and play.

I've been wanting to check out burning man for many years, but got distracted by music festivals instead. This past year, at each of the big event's i've been to there have been very strong signs that this was the year that i needed to finally do it. I met some of the BRING IT crew at bonnaroo...the hooping wasn't for me, but they were cool peeps and got me thinking a lot more about it. Then i saw fire performers/fire spinners show also at 'roo, and was blown away by it! Made everyone else in camp come to check it out again the next night!

then to top it off, the spinning monkey machine was at the Rothbury Festival up here in MI this month. All hail the monkey machine is all i have to say about that!

and to top it all off, got a friend out in the phoenix area that's going for the first time too with a group...some vetrans some newbs...

So i figure all the hints have been dropped, i've seen very small parts of what could be out there, and loved every bit of it. and having a group to go with makes it easy as flying out from detroit limits what i can bring.

No more excuses... this is the year!

(probably the first of many....)

Heya there,

Detroit is awfully close to Windsor (my summer student home) and I am also a first time burner...looking for a group. Would love to know more about you/your group, and would love a friend/group to get there/be there with!

About me: Working in a national park, interpreting nature for all the folks that come lookin to reconnect, which is an awesome job, specially for a social, enviro chic like myself. I sing, write poetry, and love to play and discover in general, create and philosophyse.

About you:

Gimme a hello at the least, so I feel not so alone!! I hate to be on the computer, not into blogging, so could use some encouragement...
Peace and Love (is all you need:)
Andrea

There will be a meeting tonight at Atwater Brewery downtown at 7pm. Feel free to stop by and say Hi. I won't be there though, but lots of other fun people will be.
It's going to be alright.

Turns out I'm gonna be flying out to Phoenix and riding in w/ my friend who's out there.

I just found out about this regional Michigan BM group last night... Not sure if you know if it yet, but if not here's the addy:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/MI_BM

Ended up going to that meeting that Sputnik mentioned... Met a few of the people on the list. All very kind and helpful peeps... You may be able to find a rideshare through that.

Did you find out where you're gonna be camped? I guess our camp is at Hummer & 4:30... the Arconauts camp. There's gonna be a few veterans there, but mostly virgins... stop by sometime if you get a chance.

Yep...this is Fish. I thought that was the perfect name for me...works on sooo many different levels. :)

What's with the making a mitten & Fish? I heard it mentioned a couple times but didn't quite understand the reference.

The mitten and fish refer to the relative shapes of the lower and upper peninsulas of Michigan. Put them out if you want other Michiganders to stop on in.
It's going to be alright.

Hehe...been in Michigan for 9 years now and never heard the UP called a fish... Only knew the mitten.

Now i know... I'll see what i can do about making my own mitten fish flag.

4:30 & Hummer....you're all welcome to swing by. Not sure what the setup will be, but i know i'll have plenty o beer and liquor to share!

I'm with ya Fish on that one, been here over 46 yrs now and don't recall the fish reference. I've known about using ur left hand but i like the idea of the sign. Mine's gonna be a lake trout. I was thinking of pasting a little pic of kwame to show where the D is

So with all that beer and booze, I bet thats a good basis for ur nickname eh
