Hand Washing Station

Post by tony patch » Thu Jul 31, 2008 7:06 pm

Hey,

I'm trying to put a hand-washing station together for our camp, and I'm wondering if you had any suggestions for where to find a wash basin. I'm thinking of something along the lines of a plastic sink basin. Are there any junkyards or other places in or by SF where I could find one? If not, do you know where I could buy one?

Thanks =)

call Johnny on The Spot and you could probley rent one for the week or buy one of there old hand wash stations... they usually come with a soap dispenser and a towel holder.... and have 4 sinks that can be used at one time....

If it is to meet Nevada Food permit requirements, check the following:

http://health.nv.gov/BHPS/ehs/ehsdocs/SelfInsp.doc

You will get a copy with your permit.

The setup is very simple. Warm water, soap, paper towels, trash basket, waste water catch bucket.

I've made arrangements with United Site Services (formerly JOTS) last year and this year for a handwash station for our camp. When I called this year to make the arrangement I was originally quoted an even more outrageous price than the price I paid last year, but when she learned I had one last year she gave me the same price as then. With a midweek pumping of the gray water tank, you are looking at around 450 if she gives you the same price I got. It's a nice luxury item we could live without, but it does make the health inspector smile when he does his inspection. Also nice to be able to wash your hands very easily when you need to. It also gives you about 40 gallons of gray water disposal... ahem.... wink wink. They generally do not fill the reservoir with fresh water... that's up to you.

By the way, on a typical construction site in an urban area, you'd pay about 100 - 150 bucks for the same thing for a week, if that.
A plan is what you vary from.

Destiny Lounge 3D will be at Bradbury and 3:15 this year as a part of the 404: Village Not Found group of camps! Come see us!

We've used an outdoor-type sink, for years. It's plastic and has removable legs, for transit. We stick an old 5 gallon water bottle under it, inside a plastic tub, to catch the waste water. The bottle gets sealed up, at the end, and carted off the playa.

We bought the sink used, at a yard sale, but I'm sure they are available at hardware stores, or maybe Sears.

One important rule, (inacted after the first year): Thou shall drain no pasta water.
