Post by Gabbles » Fri Aug 01, 2008 8:29 pm

Can i buy it in a store somewhere? I have a large check that is going to clear on wednesday, so i can order anything UNTIL then, SO I am trying to make as many purchases i can SANS internet (so im not biting my nails for delivery).

IS there a place i can buy it, and if so, where?

If you live in the SF Bay Area, you can order stuff through Cool Neon online, but select "will call" as your delivery method and pick it up at their office in Oakland. My friends and I were over there tonight getting our stuff. They're burners... and put on soldering workshops that teach how to do your own custom EL wiring.

I'm not affiliated with them in any way, but I was pretty impressed that they're willing to put on workshops and whatnot. They also offer a 20% discount during July and a 10% discount the rest of the year to burners. They have a couple of locations you can see (some of) their gear in Berkeley and SF in the Haight... but from what I've seen (in the Haight) they only offer a small subset of what you can buy online from the web site.

I think there are few retail stores because almost the entire world supply is consumed by burning man.
The rest goes to the Israeli and Russian military, and what's left ends up on taverns and roadhouses in unreachable places.

I've noticed that PEP BOYS, which used to be my trusty source of instant gratification for EL and LED stuff, has been phasing out the wire BIG TIME. In the small picture, this means CLEARANCE STUFF!!....but in the end, no more grab-and-blink. So look around at automotive supply stores while you can, and enjoy the blank looks when you ask the clerk for "electroluminescent wire".
I also scored some fun LED chaser modules with red plastic flames and green units that just BEG to be put on a bike or in a space suit. Two bucks per, and they'll run off a 9V battery. Even a used one. Lots of fun, for what you'd blow on a single Cyalume stick![/i]

Auto Zone?

...doesn't HAVE to be Pep Boys. Just Big Auto Store. YMMV.
