Does anyone have a Jetboil cooking system?

Post by JezebelinHell » Mon Jun 23, 2008 9:31 am

I'm thinking about getting one for our playa kitchen this year, and I was wondering if anyone had ever used one. I've found a pretty good deal on a nice set-up, so cost isn't gonna be a huge issue. I guess I just want to know how well they work in playa conditions. They appear to be pretty ideal for high-wind situations.

I first used one hiking after last year's burn. It worked great in high winds. If you just want hot water, it is fantastic. You can cook in it too, of course.

Jetboil rocks on the playa. Stands up to the fiercest wind, and heats up anything quick as shit.

Jetboil kicks ass. I've been using a Jetboil burner for a half-dozen camping trips over the last few years -- and it does as well (if not better than) my fairly high-end home gas range burners. Puts out a crapload of heat for the gas consumed. I always wind up with spare gas cartridges because I overestimate how much this thing will use. A cartridge system like this is great since you switch to powering lanterns and whatnot when you're not using a burner. It's turned out to be a lot more efficient and flexible than carrying both a stove and a white gas lantern.

If you want to do any baking...like biscuits, cinnamon rolls, 1-layer cakes...get an Outback Oven...I take mine backpacking, sea kayaking...great little oven.
