Pilates/Physical Therapy Barter 4 Shade Structure Help?

Post by djsalty » Sat Aug 02, 2008 10:10 pm

hi burners

i am heading to the playa alone this year (my 6th burn!) and am a little nervous about my shade structure. I have all the materials and tools and I don't want to sound totally wimpy but...I'm a girl! ;-) But seriously, I do think I'll need some help with the build. So since I'm a certified pilates instructor, I thought someone might be interested in bartering for that? I focus a lot on rehab so if you have a sore back, I'm pretty sure I can make you feel better, stronger, more flexible and help you to be a little more in tune with your body. And I'm bringing my props with me - foam rollers, therabands, etc. so let the fun begin!! :-) Oh and I will be arriving Tuesday between the afternoon and dusk.

shade structure details

Post by djsalty » Sat Aug 02, 2008 10:31 pm

hey there

well i have camo nets (8x20 each and there are two of em), tarps, mallot, rebar, rope, net/string and will be purchasing pvc tubes and some other things that some shade structure folks recommended.

I'm coming up in a white cargo van and my plan is to cover the cargo van and provide some kind of rise/vent thing on top of the cargo so wind can pass through and to help with heat in the van.

I also wanted a place to chill and don't know what makes more sense - a) secure the camo to front of van (like under the van, or roll over the camo so car tires and the weight of the van will keep it secure) and extend past the back doors as far as possible to have room for two or three chairs, coolers, a table or b) have camo and tarps perpendicular to van and extend in boith directions on either side.

does that make sense? i'm still trying to figure it all out :-)

It is advisable to try and set this rig up yourself long before you get to the playa. Once you're there, you're likely to find plenty of helping hands sans barter.

An open invitation to you and anyone else who needs help setting up their stuff. I'll be camping with PolyParadise at 7:30 and A. If you need a hand setting something up and can find me the odds are good I'll be happy to help. This is the first year I'm not building some multi-story project and will probably be looking for some excuse to construct something....:)

what day are you arriving..??
maybe lace the 2 nets together length wise and put half over the van to shade it and you can sit under the other half and use the van as a wind block..??
with the 20' length you could cover the length of the van and have 5-7' extra over one end...
think big and dare to fail
