Newbie-To break loose & go nude (spriritually & phys

Post by xysquirrel » Wed Aug 06, 2008 1:26 pm

OK, so I finally decided to go to BM, my first time ever. Barely in my mid-40s, I thought it's either now or never. And better go to BM and enter a mid-life crisis. I just want to leave everything behind, my computer, blackberrry, bills and bosses, literally drop everything and just be myself.

The reason for wanting to go nude is actually more of a spiritual nature (and not, as I would actually think if I read this, for exhibitionist reasons). True nudity is really a sign of truth. Truth is naked, because "she" is not covered. "Revealing" the truth means, literally, RE-VEILING, in other words, to put layers on.

I see my BM attendance, therefore, as a physical and spiritual attempt to elevate myself through and liberate myself of all the thick and opaque levels until I get to the truth.

Hopefully, the 2008 will BM will lead to some clarity, to a clearer vision of things, and an abandonment of old, preconceived, ideas and views.

And then, after the BM 2008, I will get dressed again, enter daily "life", and will see things very differently and positively.

The only question I have: Does it actually make sense to try something like that at BM? And: When push comes to shove, will I have the courage to go nude?

It may be a little cold at night for that. In the daytime everyone is at least half nude.

It depends. When you see the other people running around nude and realize most people there doing it don't have super model bodies you will be fine. Orrr you will be like me and remain self concious and just wear really shear clothes and scanty amounts of them at that.

Can't tell from your post if you male or female...if the former Please under no circumstances walk around with just a t-shirt on and no pants...we have a name for people like that: hippie shirtcockers

If you're female, t-shirts w/o pants are just fine...

You'll be fine. By noon Monday, no one'll even give you a second glance.

Bring a "Courtesy Towel" if you plan on sitting around in other peoples' camps.

I'm guessing from his forum name that he is male: "xy" . I only came to that conclusion though because I am an absolute genius! Well, self proclaimed genius that is.

Some theme camp bars have strict rules regarding Shirtcockers. "No Shirtcockers" etc. The common interpretation is that these bars and domes will allow fully naked men and/or clothed or shirtless men. So Fire Moose poses an interesting question here. "Does a vest count?"

The only thing that doesn't make sense is to expect a profound, life changing spiritual experience at BM. Those things tend to only happen if you just open yourself up and have no expectations. They're kind of tricky that way.

Try going nude, at least for a bit. Take baby steps if you need to - on the way to/from taking a shower, out on the open playa where you don't know anyone, something like that. Do use sunscreen everywhere, though! It sounds like if you don't at least try it you'll regret it later. Do it as soon as possible after you arrive while things are calm. If you like it, continue. If not, don't stress about it and simply enjoy the environment.

The Dork is wise. Put the snatch in my hand Grasshopper.

I still wonder if a vest counts.

Vest, shirt...it's the same. The vest could be buttoned ala shirt; the shirt unbuttoned ala vest.

If you want a very nice, safe environment to be naked in...feel free to wander into our bar. (we may, however, make comments either in front of you or after you leave...or not). We accept all types, clothed, naked, or anything in between (including shirtcockers). Vests are fine, but we reserve the right to comment as well.

Dont ever go to a bar that doesn't allow shirtcockers! Or, go as a shirtcocker. Burning Man is the perfect place to challenge these sorts of things, but like MissNev says, we reserve the right to comment. Its the silliest of looks.

As to nudity, I advise you close your eyes and jump. I'm BBW, and love being nude, but my imperfections often make me too self conscious. This is a failure of mine, I am not always up to challenging, but when I do, I am always rewarded. Nobody cares and the breeze feels delicious. So, its that first few moments of drop-trou that are really tough. After that its smooth sailing.

well, I shouldn't say nobody cares, because everybody does to a small degree in that we all look at everyone that is nude. Nudes are fascinating, big, little and everything in between. People care...but nobody is malvolent, just curious...or turned on.

It's not the naked people that are eye catchers. My favorite sight were seven golden and black Ravens on stilts in formation with flames coming out of their fingertips.

What's everybody problem with shirtcocking? Make folks like like third world children and keep some sun off your back. I were boxer shorts myself.

Shirtcocking is so....hippie. Naked BBW = good...naked BBM = pervert.

Marscrumb...thanks for wearing boxers!

It's been known to happen, but not how you expect it. It kinda kicks your ass, actually.

As to whether vests = shirts on 'cockers, nowayman. Vestcockers have STYLE. However, you should probably have a tie. And a gold watch. A monacle even. Somebody could start Steampunk Shirtcocker Camp.
