The Rainbows are Coming ! The Rainbows are Coming!

i have just heard from a reliable source that the rainbowites are planning a mass break-in this year around the perimeter figuring they can overwhelm and take safety in numbers.

evidently it is well-organized (yeah, right....hippies, well organized)

i hope this is not the case as it will reflect badly on the event....a gift economy is one thing, a MOOCH economy is unacceptable.

i can imagine the local Leo's will not be amused by this incursion of the smelly hordes, and will be strained if it does occur.

again, this is just hearsay, and i dont want to start a panic, but i smell patchouli.

has anyone else heard anything?

Does this mean that they'll need volunteers to haul stringy, bearded corpses dripping with hand-knotted hempen moop from the middle of the playa?

If so, sign me up!

Its time to in act the Burner MinuteMen...

TO ARMS TO ARMS!
Lets get all the MV with flame effects and when we see the mass hippy army coming to try and raid the event we unleash hell on them... or we can just ambush them at the edge of the city after they hop the fence and start taking them down one by one..... we must stop this patchouli wreaking hoard from destroying the burn.... I mean if this actually happens i can see the BLM and local LEO's flipping a shit and denying next years burn.... WTF!!! AHHHH DAM HIPPIES!

Thanks for the warning. It may be a rumor but we better be prepared.

I recommend placing barbeques around the perimeter and cooking copies amounts of bacon. Bacon is to Hippie as Garlic is to Vampire. In fact, wear a piece of bacon around your neck.

Alternatively, you could make a pipe out of really oily summer sausage and--(hey, why haven't I thought of that previously?)--load it up with some really good weed. It's like intellectual rat poison. They'll turn on each other and it'll be all "Champa, you totally promised you would give up meat if I let you henna-paint my tits" and "SCREW YOU SHAKRA, I GOT THE GAIA-DAMN MUNCHIES!"

If that fails, I say the DPW fine some farmer willing to sell a goat or a pig, bring it out in front of the man and slaughter it. Bring out a really big Noble Fir and set it on fire.

"Three new drum circles have sprouted up here, here, and here. They're all growing in diameter, at a rate of two hippies per hour. What this means... is that the hippies are conglomerating... When hippies start to nest in a new area, it draws other hippies in. With the right weather conditions and topography, it can lead to a music festival. One that last for days, even weeks. Reggae on the River, Woodstock, Burning Man, they will all pale in comparison to what we're looking at now..." -Cartman

I think if you check the eplaya threads over the last three(?) years or so this rumor ends up on the radar just around this very time of the year.

It never pans out and I suspect Simon's correct about the inability of hippies to do anything in a coordinated manner. The logistics would be hard enough for frat boys. Still, it might be a good idea to order up a few backhoes and trench a small 2-3' deep moat filled with warm soapy water around the entire perimeter.

Backup volunteers would stand the within the perimeter fence with Super Soakers full of warm water and dishwashing soap.

That'd be like tossing a vampire into the middle of the Gilroy Garlic Festival.

The lack of trees to hug is like krytonite to these folk. They don't survive long in the desert. And the ones that do will already be inside.

Well, there was that double rainbow last year... They might be taking it as a sign of the return of the summer of love and the resurection of Jerry Garcia and the uncontrollable urge to sell grilled cheese sandwiches and veggie burritos for gas money has to have an outlet man!

All minute men please report to Terrapin Station for breifing as soon as you hit the playa!

- Oh Lord, the smell. Scorched leathery flesh, super-heated patchouli, burnt dredlocks, and smoldering hemp. . .

I don't think burning them is a good idea at all. Even if you caught them before they crossed the trash-fence.

Perhaps we could form a militia of Employment Agents. Offering them Jobs would be a sure deterent.

Funny that the outside world thinks the burn and rainbow gatherings are the same thing.
Burning man is considered dirtier because of the dust actually.

I could be more of a snob to the rainbow folks if we weren't paying so many bribes to the different agencies.

i've found a simple, non-invasive technology that will stop hippies dead in their tracks and send them screaming for the nearest anti-war organizing cafe and lending library.

it's called Neil Diamond at 120 Decibals....I like "Song Sung Blue", but "Sweet Caroline", especially the live version, works great too.

but seriously folks, if this does occur, i have faith in the xenophobic nature of group psychology, that we, as Burners will defend our right to a no drum circle circle.

Imagine a thousand hippies being able to come up with all that gas money.... driving the long way around to enter the playa... evading LEOs,,,,finding their way across the playa to BRC.... and then getting lost on the playa with nothing to drink but bong water. I'd bet on dust-devils but not rainbows.
I don't post things because I believe that they are the absolute truth. I post them because I believe that they should be considered.

Hippies are getting a bad rap. Just for you kids that don't know it. Hippies stopped a war, Hippies got into politics in big ways and made big differences. The Rainbow group has a lot of love, shares and gives a lot of love, no hate just love and is the oldest disorganized thing still going on.

http://www.cnn.com/ALLPOLITICS/1996/con ... ndex.shtml

I kinda wish there were more young people like there were then, who seemed to care about shit, not so much about themselves. I think the burner community, no matter how much fun the make of hippies, are just a big bunch of HIPPIES. Simon, you a closet hippy?

abbie hoffman wrote a book, called "steal this book". listed bunches of ways to get by for free and have fun while doing it.

and Burning Man people have lots in common with the Rainbow Gathering people.

Hippies stopped a war, Hippies got into politics in big ways and made big differences.
What unadulterated bullshit.

Students, activists, parents, brothers and sisters, mothers and fathers stopped that fucking war.

And though some people in each of those categories may have laid claimed to being hippies to suggest that any one demographic stopped the war does a disservice to the truth.

ALL OF MY BULLSHIT IS COMPLETLY ADULTRATED!

Even today Hippies are doing more to stop the war then most others.

http://www.hippy.com/

If hemp was legal hippies would be rich!!

Maybe you had to be there. It was a little hippy chick that stuck a flower in the barrel of the rifle the national guardsman carried. It was the people with the peace signs embroidered on their jeans that first said "war is not healthy for children and other living things"

peace

Now don't bother me, I'm getting ready to go BURN SOME SHIT.

Dope will get you through times of no money better then money will get you through times of no dope.

You can't go back, you can never go back.
