Im bringing a keg... !
So i drink alot of beer, like a shit ton to the point that i brew my own. So i wanna pick up a keg in reno and bring it. Im flying and not shipping anything and cramming myself into a compact car. My plan for keepin the keg cold is to put it down in a few trash bags and fill these with ice. Then wrap that setup in an old blanket and then wrap all that in several layers of mylar (space blanket!). This whole setup would then be bunjee corded into a wheel barrel i buy at homedepot for transportation around the playa. I figure if I buy 4-5 bags of ice per day i can keep it at a good temp as long as its generally out of the sun.
Thoughts? Experience? wont have room for keg bucket in the car and wheel barrel is **key**.
Might be easier to handle 2 1/4 kegs..

Keg
You might want to find a really big horse bucket or trash can with wheels. They make a special keg tap that cools before and after it pours. But I have no idea where you kind find them. We our bringing out a full on fridge so if you need ice and are will to share I got you! Im out of Reno so if you need any help with anything let me know!

I brought a keg up from L.A. once and it was a disaster --
The difference in pressure really tested the seals on the jockey box and I came back from a bike ride to find the contents of an entire pony keg pushed out through a misthreaded coil inside the cooler and out onto the shade's floor! Yay!
I think the plastic bag/space blanket thing's just going to be a bloody mess after a day - remember you've got to get rid of the melt water at some point - better to just get a small trashcan or tub. Salt the ice chips on the side and get block ice for the top.
And for god's sake, after hauling it in from Reno, let it settle at LEAST half a day before tapping it!
Oh, and check your seals!

Irony. You're soaking in it.

Thanks for the input. Yea it will be messy but i figure with a drainage hole drilled in it might work out. Guess we'll see. See i want to bring around 120-140 beers.. in cans it would be pretty difficult to get decent beer. I figure a dark beer can be enjoyed cool to warm as opposed to usual canned swill. Guess this is all dependent on finding said good beer in reno anyways...

<------ Hippie Queer staying away from Carn1's Kegger...
( I can get lynched right here in Reno )
I actually prefer the light canned swill out on the Playa.. It's HOT out there and sometimes a darker beer is a little too rich.. but at night it's nice. :-)
Stop on by my place for a "happy brownie" if your keg explodes.

Word is...
Contrary to popular belief if you drink enough beer there comes a point where your cells are saturated with alcohol and and will absorb the H20 only You don't need any water. I am a doctor , I know.
Stay hydrated my friend.
