Gentleman adventurer seeks theme camp

Post by nswetenham » Tue Aug 19, 2008 1:31 pm

Gentleman adventurer extraordinaire, having been bereft of coin by buccaneers in the Carib on his journey across the pond from fair Albion, seeks theme camp in Black Rock City. I am in search of new experiences and the American way of life. Of course, those willing may be civilised back to the ways of old Blighty over cucumber sandwiches and tea. I can also teach you British sports such as Real Tennis, Surreal Tennis, Eton Fives, Winchester Eights, cricket, croquet, and of course creckut (note – you must work out which of those are real sports first. Participants must provide own horse, sabres, and damsel to be fought over in the climactic duel at the end of the game).

I will provide all of my own accouterment and require only the pleasure of your company. Though of course one usually has one’s personal gentleman take care of such things, I am prepared to live like a commoner for a few days and muck in with the rest of you in your day-to-day tasks and participate fully in the camp's activities.

I have manifold skills including of course swordplay, but perhaps more pertinently I am proficient in Swedish massage and interested in the healing properties of touch.

I am currently attempting to blend in to an American style of clothing. So far I have determined that it is customary to cover oneself from head to toe in an American flag, perch a bald eagle on one’s shoulder and wear either an apple pie or a hamburger for a hat (note: my actual appearance may vary).

Mr. Wetenham,

You may perhaps be interested in the doings of the Bomb Bay Tea Co. I am unable to formally offer you a position as an agent at such a late date. However if a traveling gentleman who evinces the character shown in your post were to happen by.... success may be forthcoming. (Technically all camp members are supposed to bring a table, chairs, tea service, biscuits, and an extra five to ten gallons of water for tea. Bringing these would guarantee a warm welcome.) The real power in the camp is the Commodore's wife, any petitions for acceptance will require her approval.

Naturally, you did not hear this from me.

The Commodore and his crew have already set out for the rendezvous point in the American West. They will be unavailable for communication by ordinary means. If you are quite determined to join us I may be able to reach them or plead your case when I arrive at the playa on Friday.

Keep in mind that it is certainly possibly to go on your own and simply visit all of the Anglophilic camps and spread the joy around.

There is an eplaya thread here:

it contains links to our other discussions and planning.
