PBR in a bottle is packing fuel.

I leave for the airport at 5:45 tomorrow morning.

I can't wait to meet all my imaginary friends in our imaginary homeland.

Wow, this place has really cleared out.
For once I notice some decor!

Is that a helicopter rotor?
Damn that's an old license plate.

Dear,

Hmmm well everyone. You know that feeling that sticks in the back of your throat, thats the one where you want to throw up and cry at the same time. I guess I just decided to put stupid work before living my dreams. I think maybe I am not ready to be happy and free and I am used to it. I hope one day I can be there with everyone. (((((((((((Everyone have fun))))))))))))))

I'll have one of those!
Slugging away getting ready.
The pile is smaller and the rig is heavier.

I am so excited!
The first thing I will do when I arrive on the playa is ride my bike to the Man.
And get to Coffee Camp.
And get to FUCK Cancer.
And find The Black Sabkha.

What's the first thing you intend to do when you arrive?

OK, so here I am back home!
My motorhome blew up on a mountain pass in Oregon... I put a new radiator and new transmission in it before I went (among numerous other things) to prevent it, and those very items failed!
That just isn't fair.
So... I called a friend back in Seattle, who showed up WITHIN FOUR HOURS, with a 3/4 ton Suburban/future art car that already has the roof cut off, but has a hitch, a brake controller, and can tow my large and heavy trailer (carrying the Land Yacht).
I towed my Land Yacht back to Portland, stashed it at a burner's house, drove home, and now I'm putting my camper on my duallie truck, going back to get the Yacht, and I'll BE ON THE GODDAMM PLAYA! My truck/camper is a WAY better tow rig anyway.

Oh... and the motorhome... it's still there on that mountain pass in Oregon... after thinking about since last night, fuck it! It wasn't worth much, and when you add up what it's gonna cost me to trailer it home, fix it, and the loss of my Burning Man time, I think it's a losing proposition.
I never registered it, I was just using a trip permit.

I'm not going back to get it!

OK, NOW I'm headed to the playa!!!!
Considering a total loss of my rig Saturday night hundreds of miles from home, a Sunday departure in another rig, fully set up, is pretty damn good!

I guess the down time is good for a thorough cleaning. Puts a cold one on the bar and rummages in the broom closet . . .

While it is so quiet here, maybe we should add an observatory to the roof. It is fairly dark out here tonight, the stars would be great viewing. To get in the right frame of mind, we could have special drinks depending on what we see in the Telescope. Let's see:

Pluto - PBR
Venus - Vodka
Mars - Margarita
Saturn - Screwdriver
Callipso - Crown Royal
Ganymede - Gin

The more I think about this idea, the more I like it!!! Screw the permits, full speed ahead, construction starts in 30 minutes.

With the observatory centered above the stripper pole, if I reinforce it a bit, that could be a nice mount for the the telescope pedestal. I may be nice to have an elevator over here on the side, it is too difficult to carry drinks up the stairs in the dark.

Now let's work on the drink list a little more.

Pluto - PBR
Venus - Vodka
Mars - Margarita
Saturn - Screwdriver
Callipso - Crown Royal
Ganymede - Gin
Jupiter - Jack Daniels
Orion - Old Granddad
Mercury - Michelob
Ring Nebula - Rum
Whirlpool Galaxy - White Russian
Southern Cross - Southern Comfort (what else could it be!!)
Hercules - Highball

That is probably enough for the first night.

fuck, y'all.

i'm home... real home - and none too happy about it.

had a great time. kids were great. dust storm hit sat and i was really tired (having my 'fuck this i wanna go home' day, which always passes....) and the hubby heard rumours that the storm was gonna get worse and maybe rain and talked me into 'evacuating' me & the kids. was way too dusty and tired to be driving - tried to tell him it didn't feel like the right plan - but he made it seem like the right idea. logic. sense.

(don't think it not appropriate for me to be soo tired with my kids there - it was my one night to party and day to recover and my nanny was totally taking care of the kids, tho' logistical planning was not her job)

so we left. drove thru a sketchy-as-fuck white out to get out - 3 feet of visibility for most of it. barely made it to Alturas without falling asleep and got the last hotel room available (what if we hadn't????). i'm listening to the webstream right now. it's fucking torture. i heard the dust storm ended 2 hours after we left and everyone had a great burn and a beautiful night. and the webstream looks gorgeous. i can't believe i let him talk me into leaving.......... in my heart i know he thought he was doing the right thing, but i *knew* it wasn't right and just didn't have the strength just then to insist on my instincts. i said that. i also said i was way too tired to think about what all i needed to take, etc. i also know things always happen for a reason and this was just how it was supposed to be... but i also need to honor my emotional reality right now and accept that i'm pissed off right now that i'm not there.

and i got home to pissed off neighbors because he apparantly wasn't clear with the gal across the street who was watching his dog about when we were leaving/coming home so she had to hear from another neighbor that we were gone and she never got any contact/emergency info that she asked him for. She left me a letter borderline-accusing us of animal abuse. he assured me he had it covered.

on the webstream i can hear folks in the back ground saying "ooooohhhh!!!!! it's beautiful!!!!!!". what??? i can only just imagine....

positive note (i am still amazingly capable of that): the one really serious intention i had going to the burn this year was not to sit in exodus for 5 hours in the heat on Monday like i always end up doing. check. i got out in about 45 minutes in a whiteout following the flag line one rebar pole at a time.

they just said the temples burning.

it's the first temple i've missed in 6 years.

the first man burn in 6 years.

i feel like i didn't really go. and i really do, at the same time, know i'm being a whiney selfish bitch, and my kids are happy to be home, tho' they were also fine out there. and i am not being totally self-reliant cuz i could've/should've been able to more strongly state and act on my instincts.

but still.

fuck.

i'm gonna sit here with some whiskey and this fucking podcast and miss you all for a few hours. if - for god's sake - there's anyone out there, please come sit with me...?

oh god - i'm watching the temple burn on the webcast. the commentary is totally silent. even the walkie-talke traffic that the stream was picking up has gone quiet. it's beautiful.
i feel like he stole my burn from me.

he's out there. all my friends... my family are all out there.

<stumbles out of the Banjo Box, still covered in playa with a dusty cup in hand.

Tisha, I'm sorry you missed the burn. Remember that everything is a learning opportunity.

OregonRed & got home today, about 1.5 hours ago, safe & sound. 37 minutes in Exodus, leaving at 4am is the way to go if you can't stick around till Tuesday.

Is anybody pouring back there?
