Just got a ticket last minute, never been, have questions

Post by chris9602 » Sat Aug 23, 2008 5:37 pm

I just got offered a ticket for free to go so there's absolutely no way I'm passing up this amazing opportunity. I will be going alone and this is where most of my concern arises. How can I find a place to camp at this late? I browsed through the forums and found that the camps like Stag Camp were all filled up a while ago. Can I just find some random place or does it not work like that? Also since I'm going alone what would be the best way to get involved at this point?

Most people camp independently. It only SEEMS like everybody's in a camp because this board is self-selecting that way.

READ THE SURVIVAL GUIDE. Square away your water, tent, shade, bike and food. When you get to the Greeter's Gate, ring the virgin bell (very important) and ask them to show you on your map (which they'll give you) where some open areas might be. Follow their advice. Or not.

Either way, since it's just you, you'll EASILY find a place to camp. When you do, pull up your car, say hi to the neighbors on your right and left and ask them if the space is spoken for. Most likely, they'll greet you with a hearty hello and such. Set up your tent, your shade (don't skimp on the shade, even if it's a blue poly tarp lean-to.)

Voila! You're burning, man!
Irony. You're soaking in it.

Hope your "gift" of a ticket is legitimate - hate to see you arrive and be turned away.

Read the survival guide once and then read it again. Hope you are in for the ride!

what a great position to be in, as others say read the survival guide. Don't worry about having a camp to be in. Use this year to explore and make friends. Camping with a bunch of friends is great but really does not make for that much of benefit. Believe me you might save alot headaches by not being of the hive mind.

So here's what you do, when walking by a camp and you see they need help, help. How about this for an idea, make a tool box up with just about everything you can think of, go from camp to camp and ask "you guys need any help, I got a killer set of tools" You will make friends. AND!!! You will a participant. AKA Bring something to the great potluck known as Burning Man, don't be a mooch!
