upper age limit for virgins?

Post by littleflower » Mon Sep 01, 2008 7:39 pm

well, that's my first question.

i am so enjoying all these posts, BM is a world of its own, and one i hope to be a part of someday. but i read that this is the last year at BRC .... is that true?

also, i am very heat sensitive, and very smell sensitive, and would love to know

... is ice expensive, is there a penalty for ice hogs?

... how do those porta-potties smell in 100 degree heat? any tips for dealing with them?

thanks for any info ... !!!

Age limits for virgins??!

Uh no. Why do you ask? Using a walker at Sunny Acres Rest Home getting boring?

Ice was 3$ crushed, and block. 15$ for 6 bags. Hog away.

porta-potties stink at any temp. When its hot they just get....Hotter.
I get to drive the ambulance how fast?!!

If you are heat sensitive, you will suffer. If you are smell sensitive, you will suffer. Are you maybe too much of a "little flower" to really enjoy BRC?

I have friends that I counsel not to go because it just isn't for them. It takes a specific type of person to truly embrace the heat, dust storms, potties, constant sound, level of physical exertion, etc...

actually i have not yet evolved anywhere near the walker stage but so many photos seem to be of beautiful young things.

i might indeed be a little too delicate for BM but damned, it looks like it might be worth a several days of extreme discomfort. i get so sick of life as usual...

y'all are terrific, thanks for the tips!

My first Burning Man was at age 52. I plan on coming back next year at age 59. I know a few guys older than me who attend. Being from North Carolina, the heat wasn't such a problem. The dust was probably the biggest problem for me.
Bring different levels of protection, from simple dust masks to an industrial
strength paint respirator. Cover those mesh panels in your tent with sheets.
Porta-Potties stink, but you're only in there for a few minutes at a time.
Wear the paint respirator, and you won't smell a thing. Read the survival guide and search the website for tips on being more comfy.
Are you a camper? If not, I suggest doing some primitive camping
close to home and maybe a regional burn before hitting the Playa.
There are many regional burns in not so harsh an environment.
Maybe you need to work your way up to the big one.
If you really wanna go, do it.

yeah.. DO IT !! don't be a baby. I HATE the heat.. I HATE the dust storms && I HATE the portos.. but I LOVE everything else. && yes there are alot of pictures of beautiful people online. Why not?? but that doesn't represent the entire community.. go see for yourself.. & if you can't take the environment.. go home. No harm,, no foul,, no regrets. :-)

Selection bias. More picture are taken of the beautiful young things and more of them are posted. Look for some crowd scenes. They will better reflect the demographics.

Here's what I told some burner virgin friends: Go to Burning Man. If it sucks for you, leave.

Just make sure you can leave if you want (that is, have your own vehicle).
It's what you make it.

C'mon...I'm 65...this was my 4th year. I'm tellin' ya, I love to mingle with the folks my age. Sure, I've got an eye out for the good lookin' ladies, but prefer the company of my own age group...it's natural to seek a certain level of like minded people...and frankly, the young ones are kind of surprised that I can outlast them on the playa...I'm out 'til 3 AM and up a 6:30 getting the coffee brewing and taking care of camp chores while the kids are still down for the count! Wimps!

At the ripe ole' age of 46 I was a virgin this year. My suggestion is to read the handbooks and information on the website and pay close attention to the tidbits you are getting on this post.....

It was everything the literature and my friends told me, overwhelming, astonishing, exciting, fast paced, hot hot hot, frenetic and beautiful.

There are experiences and memories I will have forever from the playa and I will be back again next year.

Be sure before you go, or have an exit plan ready.

I'm 48, first burn I was 46. This year I camped next to a mother and daughter pair, it was mom's 71st on Saturday. At the Big Puffy Yellow party Friday, I gave a woman celebrating her 70th a real knee-bender smooch (a couple...she was a good kisser!).

You are as old as you feel.

Well, littleflower, I'm with you.

Live and let live.

I've read that the median age for BM is 30. True or not, I dunno, but I believe it.

But when I finally get to BM, I ain't gonna go buck nekkid but I do know how to be sexy withOUT that. I suspect you know how as well.

Yep, live and let live, including boijoy, though I'm unimpressed with the web link and I think it's pretty damned inappropriate to the intent of this thread.

I just hope when I turn 70, some 48 yo hottie (lookin mid 30's like me) lays a passionate, dusty one on me. Better still if she's female! Although when I'm 70, maybe I don't care so much. Passion doesn't really have a gender, or an age limit. Well, at least in my book.

I think to some extent older burners can do better in the desert than a lot of the youngsters, because they know how to regulate their behavior and moderate themselves.

It's hot and you have to be able to get used to it. A lot of younger people can't but, on the other hand, they spend all day and night drinking, partying and trashing their systems. It's dusty. That weeds out the weak, but goggles and a dust mask or bandana is sufficient.

The toilets get funky but they're a -whole- lot cleaner than what you might think, especially if you're used to seeing them at campgrounds, festivals and other default-world trashfests. There are, for example, no flies.

I spent about an hour on Friday on the birdcage talking to a retired schoolteacher from the midwest. It was her first burn and the only complaint she had had to do with all the generators.

Especially if you get there on Tuesday or Wednesday, the people are unbelievable and amazing and there's no such thing as an upper age limit.

Lastly, there is NO expectation -whatsoever- of nudity, sexuality, substance usage (including alcohol), or any other sort of behavior except for self-reliance and participation.

I'm 51, and I wasn't the oldest person in camp, just almost the oldest. Our youngest was 19, and Larry is 48, but everyone else was late 20s, and maybe a couple 30s thrown in. It just didn't matter.

Potties stink. Hold your breath and pee fast.

I'm monogamous and got a little touchy when the sweet young thing decided Larry was cute and straddled him. I switched from Anti M to Margaret awfully damn fast. Fast enough to head off the make out session Sweet Thing had in mind. I wasn't mad, but she was drunk and MyLarry was too polite to dump her off his lap. YMMV, what works for some doesn't for others. Just be certain you and the SO know the boundaries.

porto-potties were actually kept really clean this year...i still got in and out as quickly as possible though. you can always bring a little incense in with you.

heat is intense...that's why we get very creative with shade-structures there.

i like your attitude of willing to put up with a little suffering for a lot of fun!

i'll be 50 this year and this was my 6th burn. i hope to go for the rest of my life, however long that is. even if i'm a li'l ol' lady in a wheelchair, i'm hoping my young friends will kidnap me and take me out there.

Upper age limit?? Are there any limits at burning man? - apart from disrespecting your fellow citizens in any way?....well I certainly felt no limitations..! I am 44 years old and no longer a virgin..At times I was the least dressed woman in the bar and feeling quite comfortable with all the young things around me...

As a first time burner I will share a few things. It was actually a lot tamer all around than I anticipated. You have to really go looking to find things that perhaps you'd rather not see....so don't go looking for what doesn't interest you. There is more than one can imagine to delight every sense...and not offend.

The answer to the porta potty is so simple. I kept my bandanna wet during the storms as it cooled down the air I was breathing. The dust mask I brought made feel like an alien and got very hot inside. The dust isn't as bad as you think it will be.....we only donned our serious gear like goggles and bandannas during the very worst of the storms. I also added some lavender essential oil to my bandanna to make it all smell lovely...but really the potties are not that bad (try not to look down tho') and never once did I not have toilet paper....Also, don't hover over the toilet UNLESS YOU CAN AIM and have thighs strong enough to hold you up without slipping....

Its not always hot....Sunday was beautifully mild and even got a little chilly! You'll never forget your first burn....and as long as you have water and shade and food and sunscreen; you will live through it all!

I am so looking forward to next year and plan to stay the entire time. I couldn't get enough and the conditions were nowhere near as bad as I had been told to believe ......
i like your attitude of willing to put up with a little suffering for a lot of fun!.
ya know ... i think the suffering may be what attracts me to BM.

my favorite day was ALWAYS halloween, and when i was in college it seemed that everyone either dressed up or stayed home. but suddenly the good places were PACKED, and 3/4 of the people were not dressed up ... they were just there, pointing and laughing and drinking beer, having a good 'ole time, without contributing anything. leeches looking for some free entertainment. when they pointed at me and laughed, perhaps it was a compliment in a way ... but i was always just annoyed. i even started laughing back at their clever "someone who is too stupid to think of a costume" costume. i couldn't help it. eventually i just stopped going out, despite the fact that i live within walking distance of a great scene. it was just too depressing...

and from what i read, there is some of this at BM. but if you make it difficult enough, it should minimize the non-participatory types....

at least in theory ... right?

oh ... yes i know that BM is not halloween ... by non-participating i mean those just looking for a wild party, who really aren't interested in the philosophy of the event...

Actually there are plenty of non-participating peeps.........but BM is what you make of it and you can choose to be annoyed by the lookieloos or you can look right past them because I guarantee you there will be something much more interesting right in front of you... and beside you.....and behind you... and above you.....and well, you get the point...
