2008 Cheers & Jeers

Post by The CO » Mon Sep 01, 2008 8:44 pm

Cheers to Terminal City being such a success!

Jeers to darkwads, camp cut-through, & people that don't know when they've had enough of whatever...

Cheers to awesome weather most of the week!

Jeers to the fire conclave performance getting cancelled...

Cheers to Le Contraption 2.0-Still my favorite vehicle! (Le Chat, I stand by my statement of last year; I will pump or push that ride across the playa-& we did!)

I don't care what the borg says: feather-wearers will NOT be served in Rosie's Bar.
When I ask how many burns, I mean at BRC.

Cheers to all of you who didn't bail out because of the theme or the sand or whatever.

Jeers to... ...um... ...uh...

...uh...

The yahoos that came out Friday night, I guess. I hope you found the food court. Playa serpents and night-time dust storms.

I don't know what else to say. I didn't even see trash on the side of the highway (caveat: we left at night, and I was asleep.)
Didn't even see any damned shirtcockers or art vandalism.

The art wasn't better this year but it sure seems like everything else was. Cheers!

cheers to wonderful new community members who read up and came prepared.

jeers to people who showed up with no clue..

cheers to the people who made the cool art, it may not have been overwhelming like big rig jig or waffle or venus fly trip, but if you came across it and came close, it was awesome:
the dildo garden, the capitol building with the swing, the burning log wheel, the baseball and bat pyramid (sorry i don't know actual names of the pieces).

cheers to flaming lotus girls for making a super-interactive piece.

jeers to the playa snakes.

cheers to the porto-potty people.

cheers to all the people who actually held the events that were listed in the www.

jeers to the dpw person who ran over bikes.

cheers to all the other dpw.

cheers to the rangers...they were super cool and friendly and helpful.

cheers to the naked greeters and all the other greeters who took their responsibility as being the first point of contact hilariously seriously.

jeers to people who made moop, intentionally or unintentionally.

cheers to people who spent time picking up moop.

cheers to bmir

cheers to a temple that rivalled david best's...we're finally not dependent on him anymore!

cheers to the silent sections at the temple burn.

jeers to the pushers at both burns...this ain't a rock concert!

cheers to Mal-Mart for having a burning tran.

cheers to the first-ever BRC gay pride parade.

cheers to the critical tits after-party.

jeers to the initial traffic jam at critical tits.

cheers to the swimming pool on the playa.

jeers to the black rock beacon---booooring.

cheers to the misting dome.

cheers to all the funny little signs here and there--loved the Rebar Injury Camp sign!

Cheers to my fantastic camp mates.

Cheers to my nice neighbors who worked out property lines with us in a friendly low-key way.

cheers to a smooth exodus on monday morning

jeers to the midnight entry on sunday--not enough communication.

cheers to shouting fire, keeping the vibe going.
Live as if everyone loves you and thinks you look great. Dance as if no one is watching.

Jeers-The DPW situation gets worse and worse.Elements of this seemingly outlaw faction flaunted speed limits consistently.
One clown did a complete 360 degree tire screeching wheelie at 4:30 and E sending up a giant cloud of dust before heading his pickup,at a very good speed, toward 4:00.

Cheers to The Ketchup Bottle-For a great number of reasons they deserve high praise for those of us camped on 4:30 and beyond.

Cheers to the General Vibe-Positive and upbeat.

Cheers-WWW guide. One of the best ever and especially needed after last years fiasco.

ZuZu-I know how much work went into this. The artist cashed in a lot of chips to make this happen. And it did.Stuff like this makes The Project what it is.
Be careful. You can spend all your money in there..............................Oriental Visitor

Oh, wait:

JEERS to the stadium/construction lighting around the man that flooded the open playa with white urban light, casting long shadows, polluting the cityscape and starscape. They were probably necessary to prepare the man for the burn, but I couldn't help feeling like the best part of the burn was over the night they turned those on. (Thursday or Friday)

I wonder if it would be possible in the future to direct the lights AWAY from the city so that BRC doesn't look like a construction zone a few hours after it's finally built.

Sitting around on the playa waiting for the burn to start and having to stare at all those lights significantly affected the mood of the people around me, based on comments I overheard.
