Entry driveway signs
Entry driveway signs
I found the quotes on the sign placards leading up to the city gates to be very well picked. Unfortunately, my memory ain't what it used to be, so I've pretty much forgotten all of them (except for the one from Tyler Durden).
Is there a list anywhere out there what I could save for posterity?

I actually found the entry signs quite pessimistic and depressing after a bit. I do understand the state of our nation is far from what the originators set forth or even what we would now have liked it to evolved in to, but these are also things we already know... Or we wouldn't be coming to TTITD. I am thankful that someone took the time to make the signs and it was their art and there was a lot of truth to ponder in all of it. But I am of the mind that focusing on what is wrong, bad and terrible will cause you to often get more things that are wrong, bad and terrible. Whereas focusing on the creation of the dream one would like to see and living it to the best of one's ability... well, y'know...
history is an important learning tool, but vision ... and courage to bring the vision in to reality ... is where the true art of the playa comes home to us every week of the year...

(i just love ellipses... Favorite punctuation by far!)

Three by WT Sherman and one from Democracy in America.
And Twain's: Suppose you were an idiot; then suppose you were a member of Congress. But I repeat myself.
They had more than usual, I think. Of course the site was further from the road. You think they'd have them on the main site somewhere, but I've never seen them there.

I couldn't disagree more - I think a lot of those quotes were tongue-in-cheek statements by people who loved America, but chose to show that by poking fun at it. Overall, I was a little afraid that this year's theme would devolve into the same chest thumping "america is great in every respect, and if you don't agree leave" we see coming out of this years' presidential campaign. But I think these signs set the perfect tone of understated patriotism that is sorely lacking in today's unsubtle pop culture.

I certainly have never minded using humor to make a point. And I understood the "tongue-in-cheek" aspect of the comments... but just too many towards to the negative that we are already aware of and less on the creation that we are capable of, in my opinion. Of course, that is one of the delightful things... we can have and express our opinions and share the right to disagree. :)

Loved the quotes! I wanted to snap some pics, but we came in at 1am... i'd love to see a list of them all as well.
There were several quotes by Alexis de Tocqueville. I can't remember which ones, exactly, but here's a list that contains some of his most famous quotes...

I particularly like:
"America is great because she is good. If America ceases to be good, America will cease to be great. "

More shy than they'd think, more daring than they'll know...
