So I have been back to Playa ten straight years in a row and its been the best of times with the best of friends. I've been hooked since the first year when I was dragged out to the playa (against my wishes) and haven't missed one since.

This year was kick ass and have no regrets in hitting my double digit metric marker of 10. But as I looked over the items I tolerated, I may decided at this time to take a break. I felt that there were too many instances where I felt like I was being set up my narco activities. To be asked at least a half dozen times each on the line " do you have extra baggie I can use?" or "Do you have any XXX that you can spare" started to make me feel like my time was coming up. I saw people get popped for pot in their tents and the incidents at the Opulent at dawn after the Burn was just a bit too much for me to continue to enjoy the event without carrying around a load of paranoia.

My friend who helped tear down my camp was detained, hassled, accused at the departure gate by BM staff. We had 4-5 extra bikes at our camp after everyone left. He assumed that one of the bikes was a camp members left behind so he decide with good intentions pack it. But it ended being a community bike that was painted over by unqualified burner. Was spotted and was detailed
Regardless, he has ruthlessly accused without any consideration for the truth. The penalty above the return of the bike was 2 hour wait in the holding pen or all your drugs and beer, or a blowjob for a fellow friend.
My friend gave all his beer and was able to depart but choices disguisted him.

I know we are all flawed creatures, but while on the playa, I would hope to see us all get along without deception and/or greed.

I think I am done for now. Maybe hit some regionals events, find some other non BM events, or no events. Maybe I will turn around by next spring but it sure left a bitter taste for now.

Those may have been the options given, but they were shitting him. And commiting extortion. Did your friend get any names? He might want to tell the org or the sheriff.

Simon, I don't know how I feel about the whole gate brouhaha, but this one stinks to me. I think finding and punishing the perpetrators in this case is unlikely, but the whole "you must give me sex" aspect of this, would have tipped me off right away. Besides, as a member of B.E.D. I find that particularly abhorent.
