I'm afraid of americans is by david bowie, i believe, unless there are two songs with the same name.
Our camp theme song this year was White Out Blues (which we wrote during monday's white out):

You are right, David Bowie. I believe there is a version featuring Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails.mars wrote:I'm afraid of americans is by david bowie, i believe, unless there are two songs with the same name.

OH SHIT! I titally forgot to blast this Johnny cash tune this year! Im sure its been played out at BMan before, check it:
Johny Cash: Ive Been Everywhere
was totin' my pack along the long dusty Winnemucca road,
When along came a semi with a high an' canvas-covered load.
"If you're goin' to Winnemucca, Mack, with me you can ride."
And so I climbed into the cab and then I settled down inside.
He asked me if I'd seen a road with so much dust and sand.
And I said, "Listen, I've traveled every road in this here land!"
[Chorus:]
I've been everywhere, man.
I've been everywhere, man.
Crossed the desert's bare, man.
I've breathed the mountain air, man.
Of travel I've had my share, man.
I've been everywhere.
I've been to:
Reno, Chicago, Fargo, Minnesota,
Buffalo, Toronto, Winslow, Sarasota,
Wichita, Tulsa, Ottawa, Oklahoma,
Tampa, Panama, Mattawa, La Paloma,
Bangor, Baltimore, Salvador, Amarillo,
Tocapillo, Baranquilla, and Perdilla, I'm a killer.
[Chorus]
I've been to:
Boston, Charleston, Dayton, Louisiana,
Washington, Houston, Kingston, Texarkana,
Monterey, Faraday, Santa Fe, Tallapoosa,
Glen Rock, Black Rock, Little Rock, Oskaloosa,
Tennessee, Hennessey, Chicopee, Spirit Lake,
Grand Lake, Devils Lake, Crater Lake, for Pete's sake.
[Chorus]
I've been to:
Louisville, Nashville, Knoxville, Ombabika,
Schefferville, Jacksonville, Waterville, Costa Rica,
Pittsfield, Springfield, Bakersfield, Shreveport,
Hackensack, Cadillac, Fond du Lac, Davenport,
Idaho, Jellico, Argentina, Diamantina,
Pasadena, Catalina, see what I mean-a.
======
And a big DUH on my part not realizing "Im afraid of Americans' is by Bowie. :::shoots self in foot::::

EAT STATIC provided the soundtrack for our vehicle. I'm not sure about what songs or albums 'cause it's all UNTZ-UNTZ-UNTZ, but I have learned to love it.
At camp, HALF MACHINE LIP MOVES by CHROME was a popular selection. It's kind of fukt up, but it's groovy and you can dance to it.

I keep coming back to Bowie too after a burn. I defy you to listen to the Ziggy Stardust album right now and not get playa-misty.
Another song that jumped out and made me and others smile was mentioned previously-- Just Like Heaven by The Cure.
I'm biased, but this one still blows my French maid skirt up:

For me this version of this song (esp. the vocal improv after 3:45) encapsulates it... flashes of the drive between Gerlach and the Playa pre-Burn dawn on Saturday...my wife n' friends at the Flaming Lotus Girls...storms... dustbunnies... lost friends and the temple....all the sweet, funny, creative, giving people...my relationship/s, trips, baggage....
Live - The Dolphin's Cry (2000-05-21 - #2)
"Love will lead us...she will lead us...see the road rise up to meet us... in the air we breathe tonight...love will lead us she will lead us... to the lotus she will lead us... surrender...to the lotus...love receive us... receive us....."
(Complete/original lyrics: http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/live/thedolphinscry.html )

Theme music during exodus
The girl I was driving with had some random mix cds and a bunch of perfect BM songs were on them, this was my first burn and the songs took on new meaning for me and I had the strange sense that they had been written just for burning man. It was wierd and profound, just like my experience at BRC. A few that I can recall;
Box of Rain by the Dead; "such a long long time to be gone, and a short time to be there."
Friend of the devil
Broke down palace; "momma momma many worlds I've known since I first left home, goin home goin home..."
Madame George by Van Morrison; "sitting in the corner playing dominoes in drag" something that happened in our camp during the Sat dust storm, awsome!
Ring of Fire by the man in black.
many more that I don't recall just now.
What a surreal and magical finale to an unbelievable week!
