Labor day is the 1st Monday of every September and in 2009 that is September 7th. All my money is on Monday the 31st of August to Monday the 7th of September! How ever I'm gonna check back to make sure that I get there on time.
That would suck to show up a week late.... WTF! Where is everyone going... Awww Crap I missed the burn?
"You mean it was two weeks before Labor day?" "Oh well, at least I'm here to clean up, so where is DPW sign up?"
"Hi Logan, my name is Chicken and I fucked up and missed the burn. Any chance I can hang with you and clean this place up?"

I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy!
I am assuming that the UK uses the same calendar as the rest of the free world, and therefore Burning Man always ends on Labor Day. You are expected to have your stuff packed and head out of there on that Monday---"EXODUS DAY". I have looked at the calendar 3 times and that date is still SEPTEMBER 7th, 2009, not August 6th.roamer wrote:As much as I love Burning Man, over a month of stimulation would have me going slightly mad and besides I'd be wafer thin.
So that'll be 1201am 31 Aug to 1159pm 6th Aug. Although if you're lucky the playa party begins days earlier and ends days later.
Just trust me and mark your calendar from Monday, August 31st to Monday, September 7th! I will assure you that you won't miss the party if you do that for me.

OK, OK - my typo mistake - I'm still jet-lagged as I only returned a couple of days ago.
Here goes - third time lucky: 31 Aug to 6 Sep.
Yes I know 7 Sep is Labor Day in the US and Exodus Day to the rest of us but I've never considered this part of 'the week'. Perhaps it's a cultural difference or just me. I spent my Labor Day saying goodbye to friends that I won't see for a whole year, MOOP sweeping and cleaning vehicle windows in the queue.
This was the first time I left on the Monday as I'm usually part of a larger camp and leave on Tuesday. Fortunately I got out relatively quickly and didn't experience the day in a car that I was expecting.
Next year I'll probably have to spend 15 days on the playa as my own theme camp is expanding to include a large project. I'll have to fatten up prior to the event to last this amount of time with a heat and altitude diminished appetite.
And no we don't have Labor Day in the UK. There's several other countries that observe a Labour Day and usually in May. We traditionally watch men with bells around their legs fight each other with little sticks and a pig's bladder while young women dance around a pole weaving ribbons as they go.

Oddly enough that labor day commemorates the Hay Market Massacure in Chicago, although the way it coincides with the pagen May Day is also a factor. We have our labor day in September to prove we aren't communists.roamer wrote: And no we don't have Labor Day in the UK. There's several other countries that observe a Labour Day and usually in May.

Not to pick on you, but this happens to remind me of something. There actually ARE two ways to arrange the weeks on a calendar. The common way in the USA, is to start with Sunday and end with Saturday. But I just saw a calendar that started with Monday and ended with Sunday -- it may have been on the B.M. Regionals pages. And I'm pretty sure that's how the calendars were arranged when I lived in Europe. The importance is simply that you may get two adjacent dates mixed up if you glance at a calendar from across the room, without actually reading the name of the day. We are all creatures of habit, and the second day from the right is Friday -- if that's what you are accustomed to.I am assuming that the UK uses the same calendar as the rest of the free world
Regardless, I'm ready for a two week long Burning Man Festival -- at least!

Mine is the 9th, (09-09) California's birthday, so I can hustle the bartenders for two drinks, one for me and one for the state.Simon of the Playa wrote:My Birthday is the 4th, and i never miss the opportunity to go to birthday camp and get a Gift Balloon filled with NO2.
Nothing like a little wah-wah Hippy Crack to start the day right.
