BUMP

NBC sucks my ass. no really, they do. they suck my ass clean, with their tongues.

every day now, as they splash little snippits of semi-erotic muscle-bound and lithe athletes in bizarre juxtaposition with other shows, like Law and Order, and then suddenly WHOOOM, a swimmer goes by on the bottom of the screen and some little Chinese Character Running Guy, whose top half looks suspiciously like the NIKE swoop beckons the viewer to eat McDonalds while watching Disney movies about fucking Pandas.

is it me? am i Hyper sensitive?, did i take the wrong pills?

WTF?

The Olympics are simply an advertising tool for Coke, McDonald's, Nike, and the new fall season on NBC.

Complain to the SPONSORS about any promos done during a show.
Make sure they understand that you consider then commercials.
Always call them commercials.

They don't.

Complain where it hurts.
Networks too.

If it really bugs you, tell them you change channels every time it happens.
They even run commercials during the credits.

Did you see the BBC stories about the million people relocated for the games?
Evictions and demolitions at night.
Rooftop battles.
People afraid to talk.

Looks like the Chinese put so many hormones in their food, Olympic athletes are afraid that they'll test positive for HGH and the like, so the Olympic village has to have a special farm for the food used by the athletes.

[shrug] The only competition I was interested in was the Equestrian venue: Dressage, Cross-Country, Stadium Jumping. And I'll get plenty of that when I work volunteer shifts at the World Equestrian Games in Lexington KY in a couple years.

Too bad! Were they during the second half of the second week? I was on the road heading into the great basins of Oregon just above NV and the black rock desert.

I too, never saw the biking events. America won the silver in the Road time trial. NBC gave it only a brief mention.

Anyway, Congrats to Levi Leipheimer of Butte, Montana!!!

I remember racing with him from the Gallatin Valley weekly bicycle races in Bozeman back in the eighties when I had my bicycle shop. Even then he was competing with the fastest racers in the club as a teenager!
Bravo!

How'd that boycott work out, Simon?

About as well as boycotting Chinese clothing, shoes, tents & blinky crap?

Bet you showed them who's the boss of you!

Though, Simon's thread may not have been the most effective mode to boycott the Olympics, there was an overall effect. A very large number of tickets were never sold. The government had to give away thousands to worker just to give some events the look that they were successful in selling out the event.

I personally don't buy chinese goods. With the tainted baby formula recall in china, i won't purchase any food product period!

I even avoid American Chinese restaurants because alot of their food comes from china.

So why should there even be age limits and why should the use of drugs (steroids, et.al.) be banned?

Science marches on. They allow those high-tech swim suites.

I say, whatever science and technology can invent to improve performance should be allowed. We can build the super athlete.

I think it translates as 'meh'.

Either that or it symbolizes the hebrew letter 'shin'.

More Tainted Eggs From China Found. The main reason I don't buy china products that I would ingest, cook in or store in!

Published: October 29, 2008

SHANGHAI — Hong Kong officials said that for the second time in a week they have found a batch of eggs imported from China that contain high levels of melamine, the same industrial chemical that has been blamed for contaminating China’s milk supplies.

The announcement, which came late Tuesday from the territory’s food safety agency, is adding to growing concerns that melamine contamination may be more widespread in China’s food supplies than previously thought.

While Hong Kong officials cautioned that children and adults would have to consume a large number of tainted eggs in a single day to fall ill, the report is still another blow to China’s agriculture industry.
