The Black Rock Roller Disco WILL be there in 2009

Post by Sk8GodFather » Tue Sep 16, 2008 6:12 pm

I am here preparing for SF Decompression and every few minutes I catch myself dreaming of skating on the playa. I had the time of my life. This is the 8th year for me and it was truly special. 16 days in the desert with the roller disco in the sweetest spot on the playa. The campmates were great. No playa drama until we all got home. We even won an award as one of the best theme camps. Check it out at http://www.cora.org/2008BMAWARD.htm I didn't even know anyone did that.

When we weren't skating we rocked the playa in the Soul Train art car. That was the shit!!!!!!! Next year the Soul Train will have a rockin' passenger car complete with disco lights and bumpin' old school funk. We might bring in Don Cornelius. You can bet your last money, it's gonna be a stone gas honey.

I'll be looking for you all next year. Same playa time, same playa channel

Right on! Loved the Roller-rink and it was right around the corner from my camp! Looking forward to a ride on the Soul Train 2009!

There are some Gigsvillians that are also into Roller Derby. You may know some. You should consider going to the Gigsville Decompression tm.

This makes me want it to be Burning Man time more than ever.

I was a competitive artistic roller skater for 11 years of my life. I learned to skate 6 months after I could walk. My skates are extensions of my body, and I'm honestly more comfortable in them than in shoes.
I hardly skate anymore, and I would do roller derby if I were 21 (I used to skate at practices, but I can't do that in GR.) =[
I can't wait for this.
I would also love to help out with this rink (anything, really, to bring what brings my happiness to others).

we love the godfather!

Man, oh, man we loved the Soul Train art car, Godfather! It made me want to shimmy my booty like I was skating. That art car rocked our world. I especially liked the way its nose kinda danced, moving along with the music. THANK YOU for bringing the community such a great treat! It's much appreciated.

Looking forward to shimmying on roller skates next year!

Hey people, I'm gonna be a BRC '09 virgin and I am def. gonna spend some time skating on the playa. I'm an avid skater and roller hockey player going on 17 years now.

I'm so stoked to see that there is roller skating on the playa!

Hi Burners,

I am sitting here with 138 days before returning to BRC and I'm feeling really homesick!!! I am pulling out videos of some great times on the playa and this is one of them. Be sure to see the halftime show.

ohhh man i loved the roller disco last year. i randomly stumbled upon it my first night when i was wandering alone.

i spent about 20 minutes falling on my ass and i realized that i really suck at roller skates but was able to pick it up after a bit.

a couple weeks ago i was talking with one of my buddies who went with me (both our virgin year) and mentioned the roller disco. apparently i hadn't even told him about it. so much happens at BM it takes a full year just to tell your stories to everyone! maybe i will hit up the roller rink before i come down this year to brush up on my skills.
