Live video fractal generator, Esplanade and 8-ish
Along the Esplanade somewhere near the 8 o'clock area, there was a video projection of fractal (or at least fractal-esque) imagery. (It was right next to the spinny LED cylinder that people took turns standing inside.) When I walked around behind the screen, I saw that it was being controlled real-time by anyone who wanted to play around with it. The interface looked like a small audio mixer, with about a half-dozen faders and several knobs. From what I could see, each controlled some aspect of mirroring, inverting colors, zooming, color balance etc., but all together could combine to form some remarkably complex images. This thing was a lot of fun and I was wondering who set it up and whether it was an original one-of-a-kind piece of kit or what.

I saw the led spinny thing, that was right next to the exploding bubble chamber. But I missed the live fractals. That sounds cool.

A friend just pointed me at this post. I'm the creator of the project, whose current name is epimorphism. It's a computer program I started in college, and have been working on for the past 2-3 years. It's all custom software. Not quite sure what your background is, but the program uses graphics hardware to do all of the computations, as they're essentially minituarized super computers. Feel free to send me an email, if you want to chat more, or have any questions or anything.
