I like the design of your shade structure...I was thinking about doing something similar at my camp this year. I have seen kits like it for sale on various sites, but I was curious as to whether you purchased yours or built it yourself. Also, what do you use for the center post? Is it one piece or multiple pieces that interlock?
Thanks in advance, and it looks like it's going to be badass! I will definately make sure to stop by...

eek! That is rather pricey. I am guessing the fabric is what costs so much...I am pretty sure I could construct something for cheaper, the question is what fabric to use...
And so the quest continues...
Good luck in all your endeavors; it seems like things are shaping up already! And still 340+ days left to plan...those last few months do go by really quickly though, don't they?

The Black Sabkha BRC 2009
In 2006 a bar was created called the Eplaya bar.
After a planed 2007-2008 revamp of the bar
it now emerges as the Black Sabkha Night Club
The first night club of its kind in Black Rock City,
As the Black Sabkha asserts it self as a leading bar
when it comes to drinks of the mixed, muddled and shaken variety.
A combination of quality Ingredients, skill and enthusiasm
are what we believe is the making of a classic drink.
We will like to shake things up on a regular basis.
By changing the Drink menu but the first thing you will notice
is the exclusion of some of your favorites,
but rest assure, Black Sabkha does them, and does them well.
From the mai tai to the martini, anything goes.
In the Kitchen food is simple but well executed.
Serving up a selection of food with a taste of the exotic.
Chefs will be preparing some truly tasty and heartwarming foods.
Sitting down and sharing freshly cooked meals each day
is something we cherish.
Since the Black Sabkha inception Music has been a key factoring
in the creation of the Club.
The Black Sabkha creates an Intimate Setting
for down tempo, jazz, blues and live performers.
Following the performance examples from Mutaytor:
“We are artists, musicians, and technicians
dedicated to bringing you spectacles of sound and vision
from beyond imagination.â€
Carnival Of Guilt
by Michael Anderson
I was greeted well enough at the door,
Giving my ticket to the clown.
I saw attractions by the score,
Still, none seemed to slow me down.
I heard laughter all around me,
Yet, I felt a silent jeer.
No, it didn't take me long to see-
I was not welcome here.
Heads were turning, eyes were burning,
Suddenly, all laughs were gone.
Only silent glares and my stomach, churning
In repulsed fear, pushed me on.
I walked faster, yet so did they,
What this horde wanted, I did not know.
Running to the nearest door on my way,
I found myself at "The Freak Show".
Sneaking backstage, in hopes to hide,
I saw a two- headed man in a fight-
Against himself, each head taking a side,
And neither side was right.
Both looked at me, without words being said,
Each pointing their given hand to a door.
Smiling, as if somehow my thoughts they read,
They knew what I was here for.
Walking inside, with what I saw-
Thought, defunct, my human eyes.
Though inside I was struck with awe,
I tried not to show surprise.
A four legged woman walking-
With a man who had no legs at all,
Living, loving, laughing and talking-
As if he stood ten feet tall.
A bearded lady singing, soft in tone-
To a man with two noses.
A man so skinny he looked to lack bone-
In the mirror, practicing poses.
I stood, amazed, at the shapes he took,
As my misdirected thoughts ran.
It seemed he could make himself to look-
Like anything but a "normal" man.
As if sensing my questioning mind,
A boy approached, beginning to speak.
Saying, "Stay, safely, here awhile, you will find-
The answers that you seek."
I looked down, seeing each arm without hand,
But pinchers like a lobster, instead.
He said, "There's things the world won't understand-
That can be grasped, here, full- fled. "
He gestured to a snake-skinned man-
And said, "Beauty, truly is in the eye.
Viewed by the world, a charlatan,
Won't you give the magic mirror a try. "
So I stepped over and took my view,
Beheld a man without a face.
It was suddenly so clear, I knew-
I had finally found my place.
And every night people stop just to stare,
And maybe we raise their self-esteem.
Some pity us, thinking it's not fair-
Some think we're just here to scheme.
But I recall the other side, I know-
What leads you to jeer and jilt.
And what you see as "The Freak Show"-
Is just your carnival of guilt.

But beer is so much more fun to dispose of.mojo wrote:Or water.... water is way easier to use than sandbags due to its disposability.**burn** wrote:I like the idea of the scupture boxes as storage.
They could even be coolers, holding ice and beer.

Offering up one of the five senses
Heya Moz!
As usual, your creativity knows no bounds. El lago seque negro looks to be taking shape nicely. As far as food prep goes, I would like to offer my services at least one evening for a grill spectacular to entice the olfactory senses. It's kinda a hobby of mine.
And now for something completely different!
If anyone on this thread is going to be at Decomp. SF next weekend we'll have both Hurl's there. Tossing cookies near and far.....WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE. (I know, shameless self promotion) BAD Cap'n BAD.
Do I get a schpanking?

The Fiery Wheel of Death
Every carnival has a Ferris wheel. But how many of them spin while lit on fire?! That's right! Come one, come all to the Black Sabkha’s Renowned Carnival of Wonders. Follow Black Rock City’s esplanade to the heart of the desert. Be hoisted to the heavens on a chariot of flames by the legendary "Fiery Wheel of Death"! As the wheel turns and enormous torches spew tongues of fire, you and your sweetheart will be entranced as you gaze out over miles of shadowy Playa...that is, if you can conquer your terror!

As the person who has been closest to death most recently, I want to declare the last two posts full of shit.
Carry on.

Having run household current up one arm and down the other about a week before BM I feel like I should back up Cryptofishist.
Survival is only overrated if you haven't survived anything interesting.
(BTW I am fully aware that AC current changes direction 60 times a second, just assume the up and down arms are alternating at the same rate.
)
I think the Flaming Ferris wheel is a great idea. The flame could easily be controlled so that there was a big flame at the top above the riders and only a small pilot flame at the bottom when it was below the riders.

Not the term "pansy" again. It's offensive. Oh we could probably find members of this boards queer cohort who like and use it, and who hate and protest the use of the term queer. But it's overwhelming use is pejoritive and implies that homosexuality is unmanly. And I kinda wonder what kind of soft underbellies its users are hiding.
But yeah, don't know survival. It's very precious indeed, and by saying that sort of stuff you make yourself look like a 17-year-old idiot who believes that girls dont' get pregnant the first time.
