New Burner for '09

Post by Voilee » Mon Sep 29, 2008 10:16 am

Hey, I'm Erinn. I spend my days at college studying art and english in Oregon and spend my weekends either with my Rainbow family or at the Cougar Hot Springs. I've been wanting to go to Burning Man for some time now and experience the gathering of spirits like mine. I am now of age to go, but I'm wondering just how much "preperation" is needed.

Also, wondering if many from oregon attend as I would love to hitch a ride . . . otherwise, I plan on hitchhiking.

Love and peace.

Uncle Andy: "Bullshit. What did it taste like?"
Max: "Lemonade!"
Uncle Andy: "Ok, I'll give you that one."

Hey Erinn, welcome to eplaya.

Preparation is the most important part of insuring you have a great burn. Read, read, read. Start with the survival guide and read it a couple of times. Take a look at the movies on youtube to get an idea of what a white-out is!

See you on the playa.

Hi Erinn!!

It’s true… preparation cannot be understated. It’s very important to read the First-timer’s guide, then come back later and read it again. Think of it as studying of another sort.

Check the regionals area of this board or the Main site's Regional Contact page to see if you can look up folks in your area.

And welcome to eplaya!! Please do hang around and get to know the place. There’s lots of good information to be gleaned.

Hey, Erinn, welcome.

I'm a fellow Burning Man virgin out in California, but you're on the right track coming here, these people are rad. Read the mountains of stuff on the website, and hit up the regionals (I need to do that...). Hope to see you on the playa!

Love, peace & everything nice-

Read more than the first timer's guide, some of the recommended reading has very good tips in it.

As for hitchhiking, well, it is possible and plenty of people do it, but that makes it very difficult for you to carry enough water and shelter. Try to find people in your area so you can pool resources.

Throw a heaping helping of Mad Max on top of your Rainbow experiences, there's a lot of physical differences.

Hey Erinn, I'm Daron! Our names rhyme.
What's Rainbow family? (EDIT: I went and researched it so you don't need to reply to this part!)

It's awesome that you're going to make the trip this year. You're already part of us, in that case! WELCOME HOME!!! :D

Preparation is indeed the most important part. You'll prepare for a month, and Burn for a week. Check out my signature for more details. :p

Hitchhiking is probably not a good idea, as mentioned, because you need many gallons of water and a lot of equipment. More than a person can carry.

I'll be driving through Oregon with friends, not sure of seating arrangements and so forth yet, but if you're anywhere near the I5 it's likely we could arrange for at least one seat and at least one trunk to be partially empty!

BTW, Weeds kicks ass. Andy is hilarious!
Heavy on preparations, light on expectations.

Ah darling Drutter, you prepare for a year. Yep, as in now. Winter is my sewing season.

I haven't been able to stop thinking, talking, and planning Burning Man since we drove out onto that Nevada highway and re-entered the nonsensical game called "reality". When can we go home? :(
