i'm thinking Flaming Lotus Girls, though, or maybe a dancer in mutaytor, i'm sure we could find a place for a hottie who knows her way around a carbine.
Now that's the attitude.
Was wondering when you would start thinking like a burner again.

My God, the woman's a fucking idiot, an even bigger fucking idiot to not know when to have said no to McCain and a super fucking idiot for destroying any chances the republicans had at the white house. Mccain must be truly brain dead for choosing her. Christ Almighty...what has this country come to???

And that's not the worst of it. Then she had a second chance interview and Couric asked her what newspapers, magazines, she follows for her insights into world events. She couldn't name even one, but she just babbled on and on with some rediculous make no sense answer.

I'm sure you've seen the SNL skit of the interview in the above clip. Well, part of the reason it was so funny was that 80% of it was almost verbatim what she said in the real interview.

The news has actually played the real interview split screen with Tina Fey's version and it was word for word--the only thing Tina had to add was the line about "I'd like to use one of my life-lines--I'd like to phone a friend." in response to one of the questions. It was scary funny.

What, exactly, was bad about that clip? Not senseless name-calling, but actual critique.

I find it amazing that there are people who do not realize that OF COURSE the governor of Alaska, right next to what was our biggest enemy, is going to have some idea of what goes on there at the pole.

Is it foreign policy experience? I dunno. Is it experience with keeping a very important border secure? Absolutely.

Was it a stumbling interview? Absolutely. But I didn't see any of you chastizing Obama for saying that an abortion question was 'above his pay grade' or deflecting questions with the choice riposte--'let me eat my waffle'. Or the infamous '57 states' comment.

Stumbling. Gaffes. Both Obama and Palin seem quite prone to foot-in-mouth disease and duh moments. Neither has a whole lot of what we traditionally think of as 'presidential' experience(though they are both qualified to run--as am I)

But Palin's not running for president.

Once again, it looks like the stumbling statements are okay if one side makes them--but proof of utter stupidity if the other side makes them.

You gotta make up your minds--either they're both stupid--or they're both making mistakes unrelated to their actual intelligence.

Lurker:
I agree both sides should be painted with the same brush........
I must also note that, as partisans, most people just don't see it that way......
We tend to favor and accept in "our" candidate what we revile in our opponent....
I've tried to point this out in the past, really, to no avail........I think it's the nature of the beast, especially with the most partisan of us........
And, when someone runs out of substantial arguments, defaults to name calling, etc........
Of course, some just like to "stir it up", and, say things just to get tensions high........
It's hard to tell when someone is "tongue in cheek", serious, or, just "stirring it up for the sake of discussion".......At least for me it is......

I've used the analogy: "you sound like the person in the pool laughing at all the wet people around them".........to describe how some favor their candidate, without looking at the other through the same glasses.....

I'd say we revert to telling the best candidate by using the methods in Monty Python's " In search of the holy grail".......witches and politicians, IMHO, are interchangeable, so, why not judge them in the same manner?
Now to find a duck...........

that's a tough video.............

Although not pertinent to our election, but, with regards to such video and ideas:

Has anyone posted a video showing the practice if "Necklacing" (I may have the term slightly wrong), approved and perpetrated by Nelson Mandela, and his ANC?.......

So many hail him as a hero of peace, and tolerance................
But, that brutal form of murder/execution was rampant under his leadership.......

Just wonderin'..........

Looks like they've got a wolf problem up in Alaska, anyone know?

See there's this thing called 'hunting', in which you go out and kill things for food, fun, or trophies.

And then there's pest control. That's when you try to get rid of harmful or dangerous animals. You encourage this by putting a bounty on the pests--it's usually cheaper than hiring someone to get rid of them for you.

There's also wildlife management. That's when you need to thin a herd or reduce the presence of harmful predators. They sometimes up the allowable quotas in hunting--usually when it's deer or hogs or something people eat. And they use that bounty thing when it's something dangerous that's harder to hunt.

Personally, I suspect that the people who made that ad would have a problem with ANY hunting. So I chalk up their comments to ignorance and deliberate misrepresentation of what's going on.

But lying and stupidity is the right of every American. Even Sarah Palin. And it doesn't disqualify you from being a VP pick.

Simon, you're so good, but do you see what you did? You ignored the fact that there are very legitimate reasons for the 'brutality' showcased in that video and instead slam my 'stupid' comment.

There have been a lot of idiots in the VP slot--and in the Presidency. Of course, that label of 'idiot' is usually applied with a partisan brush.

But, so far, no one's shown Palin to actually BE an idiot. She can probably spell 'potato'--and I'm pretty sure she's aware that there are only 50 states.

Unlikeable? sure. Not your cup of tea? Obviously. But idiot? Not yet.

Some people would have hit the fuel tank on the helicopter.

At least Palin hasn't hit anyone else on board, that we know of.

At least, not yet.

No one could possibly do a better job of proving Palin an idiot than she is doing herself. Did you SEE any of the TV interviews she gave? Not one coherent thought or sentence. And there is really NO THINKING PERSON or PENDANT that can dispute her idiocy. Very well respected republicans are saying publicly that she should resign.

And if you still aren't convinced, I don't think there will be any doubt after tomorrow. I'm getting embarrassed for her just thinking about it.

I'm wondering if people maybe are using "idiot" to "mean inept speaker under pressure"?

to me, idiot means low intellect, slow, etc.........
I think she's far from that...........
I would wonder how many, very intelligent people would react with that POS, perky ( because she hates that reference) Katie Couric staring at you..........or Gibson, or, whoever.....some people just freeze up in the spotlight..........
It doesn't mean she couldn't respond quite well without cameras, etc..........
I disagree with most of what she is, but, I really don't feel she's dumb....

IIRC Steve Forbes had some pretty terrible interviews way back when, but, I don't think he's dumb, either...........How about Gary Hart?............

Of course, if you're using the term "idiot" just as a slur, then, I get it.......

Why is everyone aiming at her? It seems like the race is Palin vs Obama..........
The V.P. just doesn't make many decisions, etc. and, especially under "fire" as such......
I'd doubt any president is given less than a minute, even in a nuclear attack scenario, to make a decision..........
I'd have to imagine William Jefferson Blythe Clinton had a lot of time before the wagged his finger at the camera and denying having relations "with that woman"............."Ms. Lewinsky"........and I'd say he screwed that one up..........and he's arguable one of the best, most eloquent and "slick" politicians/public speakers in modern times........

I'm not comparing them, but, pointing out that people can get really nervous, etc, on camera............

1. If she can't think or speak under pressure, she (in my opinion) would not be qualified for the job she is applying for.

2. Being that McCain is as old as he is, I think that great consideration must be given to the person he has chosen to succeed him in the event of his demise.

3. I think that great insight can be gleaned about the wisdom of the presidential candidate from the choice he has made for his running mate.

4. It has been embarrassing enough for me and our country watching the current leader of the free world make an idiot of himself whenever he opens his mouth. I am not in a very tolerant mood thinking forward to the next administration.

5. Thinking and speaking extemporaneously is a pretty important trait for a president/vice-president and I don't think people that need to have excuses made for them (again in my humble opinion) are fit for the job.

But, that's just me.

I don't think I was referencing her qualifications as V.P........... I don't think there are many, except those in our own minds........
My references and examples, (at least this is what I was attempting), were aimed at clarifying for myself whether some people actually think she's an "idiot"....as in low intellect, or, are just calling names because it makes them feel important........or better about themselves, or just want to use a stronger insult.

In that light, I don't see how your above list relates........or, maybe it wasn't supposed to.

I don't disagree with your above "qualifications" totally........I think any or all of them can be good qualities.........
I'm just saying that, IMHO, a person could be good and not have any or all of the above...........

I had a thought:
I wonder how some of the candidates of the past, before tv, etc, would have fared in these times?
I bet many weren't really interviewed much at all, even by newspapers.
They just gave speeches and let word of mouth do the rest.......
HHHMMMMMM.........

I would submit that many, many of the pres/v.p. duos of the past would not have passed some or all of your criteria.......

I would agree with this 100% -- Just thinking of the more recent past there was Nixon/Kennedy -- and not wearing makeup caused Nixon to lose the debate in the eyes of those watching.

I'm sure there are people that are calling her an idiot just for partisan reason or that they don't like her--these would just be gut reactions and spewed out just like other party talking points. They don't belong in an intellictual debate about a persons qualifications.

She is just out of her league--way out of her league. There is a big difference in being on the political stage in Alaska population 670,000 (mostly rural and blue colar where winning the state beauty pageant carries a lot of weight) and being on the vice-presidential stage of the entire country population 300,000,000.

Could she ever be ready? I don't know. Is she ready now? A far cry from it.

So maybe that clarifies my position a bit more and brings us closer in agreement.

JK:
your position is and has been quite clear, but, thanks.

I was veering off track and just wondering about the name calling....

I was making no point about her ability or aptitude for a job.........hand or otherwise.........

I would add, though, that I'm not sure how a person would draw a line reagarding "readiness", ability, aptitude, etc, for any of the candidates.
I think it's a very personal set of criteria we go by.........
A lot of folks agree, and, I accept that, I just think it's somewhat overstepping to say anyone isn't "good" enough (whatever meaning you want to ascribe to that), as though we know the final outcome........
other than as described by our own, individual rules.........

Of course, I'm the guy that would like to see if a person with no background whatsoever could do it.

I'd think, as well or better, than any of the current crop.........
