Its comes out this afternoon Alaska time!jkisha wrote:Ya, I'm waiting for the report too. It's due out sometime today, no?
Did you see that less than an hour after the supreme court ruling that the case could continue, the Mc Cain camp and Palin put out their own version of what the report would say and completely exonerated her. LOL

As luck might have it, my experience is the opposite. Censorship, in particular, appears to me to be far more of a Republican trait than it is of Democrats. Porn bans in various flavors seem to me to be a special obsession of social conservatives, not of liberals. It's been my experience that the Rs do a lot of restrictive talk, but don't take a lot of restrictive action--preferring private strictness, and the Ds do a lot of unrestrictive talk, but seem to do a helluvalot of legal restrictin--PMRC, smoking bans, porn bans(in the name of feminism), speech restrictions, etc.
The recent use of the "terrorist threat" to suppress civil liberties, especially to restrict access to the justice system, certainly seems to me to be overwhelmingly Republican in nature.
I would venture that this impression is not mine alone.

Seems like today was an especially bad day for John Mc Cain and his campaign. First, he is finally having to actually defend Barack Obama during all of his town-hall meetings as his audience members are starting to question him about all of the "Muslum", "Terrorist", and various other slams that Sarah Palin has been saying on the campaign trail.
It was fun watching him not cringe as he had to tell his audience that Barack was a citizen, not a muslim and a good American to his audience. He even pulled the microphone out of the hand of one of his constituents when her question got too distastful.
And speaking of Palin, the report is out--seems like she did abuse her position as Governor and possible broke the law in doing so. More details will be release and the next steps of the BI PARTISAN committee will probably be made more clear tomorros.

McCain and Palin Are Playing With Fire
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/co ... inionsbox1

Sunday, October 12, 2008; Page B05
I prefer to discuss politics through my novels, but I am truly dismayed these days. Twice last week alone, speakers at McCain-Palin rallies have referred to Sen. Barack Obama, with unveiled scorn, as Barack Hussein Obama.
Never mind that this evokes -- and brazenly tries to resurrect -- the unsavory, cruel days of our past that we thought we had left behind. Never mind that such jeers are deeply offensive to millions of peaceful, law-abiding Muslim Americans who must bear the unveiled charge, made by some supporters of Sen. John McCain and Gov. Sarah Palin, that Obama's middle name makes him someone to distrust -- and, judging by some of the crowd reactions at these rallies, someone to persecute or even kill. As a secular Muslim, I too was offended. Obama's middle name differs from my last name by only two vowels. Does the McCain-Palin campaign view me as a pariah too? Do McCain and Palin think there's something wrong with my name?
But never mind any of that.
The real affront is the lack of firm response from either McCain or Palin. Neither has had the moral courage, when taking the stage, to grasp the microphone, turn to the presenter and, right then and there, denounce the use of Obama's middle name as an insult. Instead, they have simply delivered their stump speeches, lacing into Obama as if nothing out-of-bounds had just happened. The McCain-Palin ticket has given toxic speeches accusing Obama of being a friend of terrorists, then released short, meek repudiations of some of the rough stuff, including McCain's call Friday to "be respectful." Back in February, the Arizona senator apologized for the "disparaging remarks" from a talk-radio host who sneered repeatedly about "Barack Hussein Obama" before a McCain rally. "We will have a respectful debate," McCain insisted afterward. But pretending to douse flames that you are busy fanning does not qualify as straight talk.
What I find most unconscionable is the refusal of the McCain-Palin tandem to publicly condemn the cries of "traitor," "liar," "terrorist" and (worst of all) "kill him!" that could be heard at recent rallies. McCain is perfectly capable of telling hecklers off. But not once did he or his running mate bother to admonish the people yelling these obscene -- and potentially dangerous -- words. They may not have been able to hear the slurs at the rallies, but surely they have had ample time since to get on camera and warn that this sort of ugliness has no place in an election season. But they have not. Simply calling Obama "a decent person" is not enough.
Is inaction tantamount to consent? The McCain campaign certainly thinks so when it comes to Obama and incendiary remarks from the Rev. Jeremiah Wright. By their own inaction, then, are McCain and Palin condoning these slurs? Or worse, are they willfully inciting the angry and venomous response that we have been witnessing at their rallies? If not, then what reaction are they hoping to evoke by their relentless public suggestions that Obama is basically an anti-American liar who won't put "country first" and has an affection for terrorists? Do they not understand the kind of fire they are playing with?
I -- and, I suspect, millions of Americans like me, Republicans and Democrats alike -- couldn't care less about Obama's middle name or the ridiculous six-degrees-of-separation game that is the William Ayers non-issue. The Taliban are clawing their way back in Afghanistan, the country that I hope many of my fellow Americans have come to understand better through my novels. People are losing their homes and their jobs and are watching the future slip away from them. But instead of addressing these problems, the McCain-Palin ticket is doing its best to distract Americans by provoking fear, anxiety and hatred. Country first? Hardly.

and the verdict is GUILTY GUILTY GUILTY!
Gov. Palin committed a misdemeanor under ALASKA STATE LAW by allowing her SVENGALI HUSBAND TODD (also known as the First Gentleman) Access to and control over state resources and files that he had no right or business seeing or handling or even worse, acting upon.
he is NOT the governor, and even if he was, it would be illegal.
this is the kiss of death, and no matter that a place like Rennsalaer County NY "Mistakenly" sent out the mail in ballots with the name "Barack Osama"
WTF?
B isnt anywhere NEAR S on the fucking keyboard....

Here's my take on it--If you have watched any of the comments made by McCain supporters at his rallies, especially the ones where that stupid lady called Obama an Arab and McCain had to remove the microphone from her hand and actually defend Obama as an honorable person and a US citizen; it is obvious that many of his supporters actually believe the crap that Palin and McCain's camp have been spewing.littleflower wrote:is there any proof that the person who made the mistake is a republican? do they even know who did it? do you even care to know?Simon of the Playa wrote:yeah, can you believe that shit?
the GOP will claim that it was an illegal immigrant doing the typing.
So, consequently, I'll bet it was one of McCain's rabid, but stupid, supporters that was typing the ballot and actually believed that his name was Osama.

What prompted the bitter divorce?
I've heard things that lend themselves to the idea that Wooten WAS doing things that would make him a questionable trooper. There was something about shooting a kid(his kid? his nephew?) with a taser or stun gun.
But it leaves a bigger question. The statute seems to say that a public employee in Alaska can't act against someone who'se doing something wrong or criminal if they could somehow benefit from that action.
Does that seem a bit odd to you?

Two quick notes (I'm supposed to be on vacation):
1. The McCain/Palin campaign is justly becoming nervous about the venom being displayed by one part of their constituency. To McCain's credit he is trying to defuse it; McCain is not, at heart, a racists (IMHO). Sadly, by becoming desperate enough to play both trace and terror cards, his campaign is gaining a reputation as being composed of bigots. It is a largely undeserved reputation, but it emerges out of the demonizing tactics used so heavily by the Republicans. The Democrats have not exactly been innocent of these tactics, but the impression is that they have taken the relative high road. And it is relative impressions that count in this contest.
2. Sarah Palin is a small-town mayor who sees nothing wrong with using political power to settle personal grudges. The recent ruling reinforces the evidence. One should also look at her more complete hiring and firing record.

In all seriousness, the Republican party is not composed mainly of racists. The tactics used over recent years, though, which you might call the politics of demonization, have been practiced more by the R's than the D's. These tactics do draw in racists and other kinds of bigots. These tactics also tend to repel educated people of good will.
That the D's sometimes resort to these tactics is not something I'm proud of, and it's not something I support. My point is that in recent years the R's have greatly increased their use of demonization, which leads to a predictable reaction from those foolish enough to believe in demons.
And Palin, in the VP role as attacker of personality, appears to revel in this kind of reaction. Watch the clips and judge for yourself. I believe that if you have an open mind, and see this mob behavior, you will be sickened by it.
I don't care about Palin's family issues. Her lack of education may be compensated by native intelligence or a willingness to follow good advice. But her apparent glee at the reaction of the mob is scary, and I do not trust the character of someone who like that kind of reaction.

I'm sorry, what does racism have to do with the Republican vote in this election? If Republicans do nothing strange and vote for the Republican, which is what makes them Republicans in the first place, their candidate is white. There is no black Republican candidate they could refuse to vote for on the basis of his/her race.
If they decided to vote for the liberal, quasi-socialist Democrat who happens to be black you could hardly accuse them of racism now could you? Unless, of course, they were Republicans of color who wanted to get in on voting in the first black president--in which case they WOULD be exhibiting a racist attitude--towards McCain.
Democrats, white and black alike, have a much bigger dilemma. If they, for whatever reason--they don't like Obamas' policies, they're Hillary supporters, whatever, don't vote for Obama--they're not just gonne be called 'racist'--they're probably going to be called 'Republican' as well(because no Democrat has ever been a dirty racist).
Understand, Obama, should he lose, will be reported to have lost because of racism--in particular Republican racism(though, as I've pointed out, Republicans will simply be voting for the 'R'), if he wins, it will be IN SPITE OF RACISM, and again, it will be reported as 'Republican racism'.
Either way, it's racism all the way down.

Racism is not about who you vote for, it is about why you vote the way you do. Racism is not derived from a voting decision. Racism does influence voting decisions.
What I've written is aimed at the politics of demonization and division. They do appeal to racism and other forms of bigotry. They appeal to people who see things as good and bad exclusively.
A case in point is Palin's characterizations in
http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/20 ... -bad-guys/
It's not overtly racist to say what she says, but it is designed for a target audience that sees things in simplistic terms. And it is not much of a stretch, given the audience reactions, to think that racists prefer that kind of message.

They would have booed her anyway.
And there are 20 some days left; let's not become over confident. I'm looking for another October surprise. The only area that McCain polls better than Obama is Military/Terror. So I am expecting that either our terror level is raised, or that some suspected terrorist plot is miraculously discovered and prevented somewhere in Europe or some nut sets off a smoke bomb in a subway somewhere that is falsely attributed to a terrorist until it is discovered after the election that it was home grown.
Damn, now I'm starting to sound like some conspiracy theory nut case.

Oh, it's code. That way the slack-jawed yokels can understand she meant 'black people' or 'some other nasty race of people besides white people'.It's not overtly racist to say what she says, but it is designed for a target audience that sees things in simplistic terms. Instead of the terrorists she was talking about. Who, being largley of arabic or other middle-eastern descent are caucasian for the most part--no matter how the left desperately tries to define them as being of some other race.
But hey, thet're all pretty simple, why they're stupid enough to think that people who go around blowing stuff and people up to make a ideological statement are dangerous and shouldn't be associated with--except at the barrel of a gun--unlike you sophisticates who think that people who go around blowing stuff and people up to make a ideological statement are respectable and should be teaching our children.
Well, if they get off on a technicality that is, and if they're aligned with the left--I'm sure you all wouldn't want Timothy McVeigh standing in front of a classroom.
