Bioremediation coalition for Burning Man greywayer
Bioremediation coalition for Burning Man greywayer
I haven't actually investigated the boards enough to see if there is any community effort to collect grey water for a huge scale bioremediation project or a regionally dispiersed bieoremediation using Oyster Mushrooms and/or anything else that possibly Paul Stamets or his entourage might have to offter as a tool to create mycellial netowrks that will grow before the Burning Man even and be ready to accept grey water extracts from sand filtration and other evaporator units that I see many people setting up all over the city. I'm wondering if this is a viable solution to help our cycle of waste become realistic food chain souces based on mushrooms that grow from these basins that bugs eat and birds eat... this can be done on an individual level as well.. it doesn't have to be collected at the gate when you are in exodus... This is just some issue I'm pondering and wonder if it's just a repetition of what others have done in the past..
So PLEASE fill me in on what you have thought about bioremediation projects involving Burning Man grey water as well as current land holding waste deposit metabolism based on mycological technology.
Thank you... Namaste.

Bump...
I know I have a typo in the subject, but I can't believe no one has any inquiery and/or solution to my porposition which is nothing more than asking if anyone has any resources for bioremediation for greywater of our waste proudcuts out on the playa... This is a no-brainer folks. This is just regenerative growth using mushrooms as a source of food for bugs which are a source of food for birds... this isn't some hippy "wow we can make psychoactive cultures out of this stuff" ... unless that's all you people are concerned about. Please considere the inplications of what your greywataer can do for a sustainable garden box.... Let's research the shit out of it and figure out if this is the way to go...
THank you in advance and never stop thinking about what more you can do outside of Black Rock Desert to develop new meaning to the world...

There are too many big words in the subject--it scares people when they don't know what the hell you're talking about in plain English.
We're doing a filter system for our camp next year--bleach, sand, activated charcoal; is our thought. We'd like to be able to recycle our shower water, just to shower with again, not to drink--although if I knew more about the process, I think it would be interesting to be able to treat it up to potable quality.

uhh... What I'm talking about is along the lines of this kind of stuff, if you have the time to read through it and/or watch the videos provided: http://www.fungi.com/mycotech/index.html
I am wondering if anyone has a plot of land devoted to adding greywater to treated soils with innoculated spores of various mushrooms that eat biowaste. Granted the projects at hand are dealing with petrol products and large spanses of deforestation and farming runoff. I understand that grey water can be brough home and just poured into your lawn and the world will smile again and have a spring in its step. I'm also interested in knowing if anyone is doing a project like mycological sustainance of grey water that other people may not be aware of.
I suppose I could have been searching these boards a while ago and just started my own project and posted something like "Hi. I hold the world's largest bioremediation project for burners to collect their greywater at the gate so that they don't have to truck it home. It makes a great way to flourish life and help maintain an area in distress like logging towns or forrest fire areas or landfills or beaches coated with oil from a tanker that broke out on the ocean." But, alas I have no money just like many people who go to Burning Man.
Anyway. I hope that was enough English for you to understand.

I've never heard of anyone attempting anything like this. The amount of water that would have to be trucked out would be daunting. It would be rather messy and expensive. Most people don't haul their gray water out anyway - they attempt to evaporate it, then dump whatever is left over onto the playa. So you'd have to train people to collect it. There's also the matter of the alkaline playa dust which might affect the process and/or the soil where it's dumped in a negative way. Small amounts on someone's lawn is likely not a problem, but hundreds of gallons on a farm somewhere could become an issue.
It seems like on- or near-playa processing of some sort would be needed. People have done small scale filtering and evaporation out there, but usually for a single camp or camp plus minimal donations. The Earth Guardians will probably know the most about those efforts.

Again.. The idea behind grey water is not to collect everyone's snot ladened buckets. It would be to collect the filtration sand or evaporative runnoff of what people have to take home with themselves anyway. Yes we all do our part to evaporate or filter out water we use from whatever it is and try not to pollute the playa with stupid shit like hair conditioners and even bleach. Whomever suggested using bleach to kill bacteria is a moron.
Back to my original suggestion is to have a COMMITTEE of voluteers designed to carry out all of the weight of peoples' excrement that they don't wish to have to. This would save a lot of time trying to figure out what to do with it once you get home. The idea would be to create a sustainable resource for mushrooms to thrive which bugs would begin to eat and then birds would eat the bugs, thus creating a new cycle of life within a particular area that needed that kind of rehabilitation or conservation of wildlife.
This isn't fucking rocket science.
I'm sick of dealing with so many people who don't know how to research on the internet and assume... Well if I just join a forum on the internet which I have no idea how to use, I'll just be able to blab on about my every day life and hope it pertains to something... You know what? There are tons of these stupid forums all over the stupid internet.
Go find one that fits your obsession with typing meaningless banter that no one wants to read.
As far as this place is concerned, 15 thousand members out of almost 50 thousand attendees this year? Who's the participant and who's the computer dork who just can't stop posting on threads?
I'm sick of this place and I'm revoking my membership within a week of joining.
Namaste Motherfuckers.

well don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.
personally, I didn't understand what the fuck you were talking about. I tried to ask a question; I was going to as some other questions from your last post until I continued reading and picked up on your tone.
good luck trying to find anyone to cooperate with you with that attitude.
I did a lot of research on the Internet on grey water filtering; it's not that easy to find.
bleach has been suggested on almost EVERY site I visited.
if people don't understand what you are talking about, and you want to get them involved, you need to take the time to inform people in a way that they can first understand your concept.
I don't think I am the only one that didn't 'get' what you were talking about either, or there would have been more replies to your post.
anyway, good riddance to you.
JK

the art of persuasion
Yowza, Max Burke! I've been reading this topic with interest but haven't had anything to contribute, YET. I was interested in your post and had been reading up on it, but you didn't really give me (or anyone else) the time to reply (in an informed way). And isn't that what you wanted? A conversation where people were prepared and had thought about the subject? And yet you were surprised when you didn't receive a reply within 48 hours?
Goathead's suggestion to check out Earth Guardians seemed right on point. When reading your post, I immediately thought of the items that they had posted around the city and on borg website about greywater. JK very kindly reached out to you with a reply and raised a good point - if you can't say it in plain english, then you've effectively limited your audience to those that are already familiar with what you're talking about.
It shocks me to see someone make what appears to be an attempt to persuade people by doing so many things that work against that.
Reading the posts today got me thinking about tips for persuasive writing. I found these tips (yes we too can do internet research!
http://www.copyblogger.com/ernest-hemin ... ting-well/
1. Use short sentences.
Hemingway's shortest story:
For sale: baby shoes, never used.
2. Use short first paragraphs.
3. Use vigorous English.
4. Be positive, not negative.
*take note*
5. Never have only 4 rules.
"I try to put the shit in the wastebasket."
*ummm, yeah, take note here too*

Apparently his shrooms were the toxic type and he ate too many. Should have gone with the hallucinogenic variety and he'd have had more fun here
Excuse me Ma'am, your going to feel a small prick.

Collecting water is exactly what you suggested earlier in the thread. You said nothing about collecting sand. Even if it is just sand and "runoff" it's still going to be large, heavy, messy and full of playa dust.Max Burke wrote:Again.. The idea behind grey water is not to collect everyone's snot ladened buckets. It would be to collect the filtration sand or evaporative runnoff of what people have to take home with themselves anyway.
Go back and read your posts again. This was not your original suggestion, nor does it negate my comment about logistics of hauling out enough water/sand/whatever to support a "large scale" processing system.Back to my original suggestion is to have a COMMITTEE of voluteers designed to carry out all of the weight of peoples' excrement that they don't wish to have to.
And no - I'm not going to go to that website and watch every video in an attempt to fully understand the process before replying. It obviously involved a permanent location where these materials would be processed and I assumed you knew enough about the technical details to handle that part. I had some thoughts about the logistics involved in collection/transport based on my experiences out there. If you can't handle people calmly trying to help you with logistics there's no way in hell you're ever going to manage a "COMMITTEE of volunteers" to do the grunt work for you.
well my account hasn't been deleted yet..
I am the calmest person you could ever meet, greet, get involved with and love. As long as you don't do stupid games with your intent to gain control over everyone else's lives.. That has nothing to do with this topc, but of course nothing can be understood over the internet.
That's why I'm leaving this discussion open to those who have the resources and the ability to fund a project of such a degree.
I do encourage you to click that link I pasted and read some information that the organization that Paul Stamets has provided so that you can learn more about how mycellial networks repair complex carbon chain waste that humans can't do with other chemical means.
If you don't understand what I'm talking about then read up on it more.
If you don't care then don't read this thread and don't respond. One of the best rules about posting on internet bulletin boards is not to respond to other responses when you have nothing to contribute to the thread.
Thanks to everyone who posted their weird shit that has nothing to do with the topic and hopefully I can leave on a lighter note about making the topic happen and getting people to stop using forums for their play-time.
Peace, Love, Respect and stop lying to yourself, Enjoyment, Namaste-motherfucker (which isn't even my quote)
And EDUCATE YOURSELF. That's what we have with the internet.
Later.
