Departure of LadyBee an omen?

Post by MoisturePup » Thu Oct 16, 2008 3:02 pm

Is the departur of LadyBee from the BMorg an omen? (she left for some startup called NewZonia)

Was last year so bad that she decided it was time to split? Or was it so bad that they decided to show her the door?

Or is she just bored and wants to do something new that doesn't involve a week in sweltering heat and dust?

Why is it that you assume the fucking worst and then go on to start a petty little thread about it Moist? Jesus, just when I think you're starting to act your age you start your little pushy bottom routine.

Why not consider that people grow out of their jobs and move on to new and more challenging positions or that they've given as much as they can and decide to hand the reins over to someone else rather than sit on their laurels and allow a good thing to rot because they don't know when to step away.

*looks around* oh yes, this is in fact a discussion board.

BTW: if you look at the last sentence of my post, that was included in it.

Actually to me it just seemed like a thread of concern more than anything else.

Didn't see anything wrong with it.

Granted we on E-playa are a relatively small segment of the overall Burning Man community but I can’t help but feel irritated LadyBee made no announcement here.

It feels some times that if the members of Org. have as much disregard for the official Burning Man Community Discussion Board as they seem to have they really should just pull the plug. It would be a loss to me and most of us but fuck we don’t seem to mater to the org. anyway so why not.

If a tree falls in the forest and nobody's around to hear it....

I didn't realize that the ORG had to broadcast every personnel matter out to the world...and I'm surprised this thread even exists.

As far as the ORG's lackadaisical support of this place, I've been wondering when it will suffer the same fate as Tribe and end up disappearing for good? It's had one heck of a good run...

In any case I'm glad LadyBee found a new opportunity and went after it. Perhaps others could benefit from taking note of her actions. I've done something similar and I'm much happier for it...

I don’t see any reason to Not be optimistic that she will do good elsewhere or that a new person is her position won’t offer new energy and ideas that will rekindle the fire. Change certainly can be a good thing.

By fostering the whole concept of “communityâ€

every company that sets up a board and IT/programmers that set up CMS/BBS's tend to ignore online communities.
It's just the way it is.
They really dont think too much of people that use them for whatever reason.
In most cases, they have the "reasoning" that people on community boards are less than intelligent or that they (the IT/programmers) just dont have the time to login.

Like I said, just the way it is. This will never change.

best wishes, and Thank You, Lady Bee.

your speech at Last Years NYC Decom was inspiring, and i know at least 4 people who were greatly moved by your call to action, so much so they actually wrote an art project grant and submitted it to the org.

"Art" is too important to let slip away in these times of financial distress, and i hope NewZonia is successful.

with that said, now that you're leaving, can we finally get the Hello Kitty Lasers AND Brittany Spears Live on the Playa?

just thought i'd ask.

You mean like when Larry Harvey's first and only post ever to ePlaya was after he posted his Business 2.0 comments to Tribe? Struck me as a bit weird.

I think I understand why Borg visits here very little. Borg members do this crap for a living, so they probably want a break from Burning Man drama.

Also, there's a handful of highly condescending folks who just kill the good vibe for veterans and newbies alike. While it wasn't one of the usual suspects, a classic example of this was when a relatively newbie asked about the 2008 moop map. Niiiice response he or she got. Bet that voice isn't going to be heard around here much.

Good Journeys, LadyBee.

I always looked to the JRS for official announcements.

Hey, don't y'all read the eplaya? Would you post here unless you had to? Oh. Wait a minute. Nevermind. Snark on.

Glad most of the people in this kept it positive.
LadyBee deserves that much at least.

Here's the announcements..

Post by LadyBeeSF » Sun Nov 23, 2008 7:45 pm

I just became aware of this thread, and wanted you to know that i posted my departure on Tribe and in the JRS. Here is the Tribe announcement, from Sept.17:

I have resigned from my position as Art Curator. I've had my job
for ten years, and it's time for me to pass it on. I've been
recruited by newZonia, a new online community based on
creative collaboration and global philanthropy, to be their Global
Arts Curator. www.newzonia.org/info The site will establish the "philanthropic economy" and will connect creative people globally in a collaborative 3D environment. BRAF can benefit from this as well as our other non- profits, and I hope to do a lot of good in the world in my new position. And I hope many of you will get involved.

I'll miss all of you, and please know that you've all made my life
very interesting over the last decade! I hope to bring all the skills
I've acquired here to my new work, which can benefit all of us. I'm
going to continue to work at the office until mid-October, so that I
can finish my post-event work. My last day in the office will be
October 17. While I'll be leaving the office, I'm not leaving the
community, and I won't be far away - just over at Fourth and
Townsend. I look forward to continuing to be involved with the art of
Burning Man, and the organization, in some way.

I"m very excited about my new job and I hope you'll all go to the
site and sign up for your passports!

And here is the JRS post:

Burning Man Update: The Jack Rabbit Speaks
Volume 13, Issue #5
October 23, 2008

A FOND FAREWELL FROM LADYBEE, BURNING MAN'S ART CURATOR

We were quite saddened when LadyBee, Burning Man's art curator,
announced that she would be leaving our fold and moving on to a new
(and exciting) career opportunity, (newZonia)after an illustrious 10-year tenure
with the Burning Man Project. We wish LadyBee all the best that this
new direction can offer, and want to thank her from the bottom of our
hearts for her years of dedication to the art and artists of Burning
Man.

LadyBee's last day at BMHQ was last Friday, and she asked that we
share this with the community:

"October 17, 2008. Today is my last day at the Burning Man office,
and I'd like to thank the whole community for an incredibly
interesting ten years!

I started working as the art curator in 1999, the year the art grant
program came into being. That was before the ARTery existed, before we
received hundreds of grant proposals each year, and long before we had
a gigantic art map with hundreds of art installations on it. It was
long before we had the huge, widespread community that we have now.
It's been a long, fascinating, and very rewarding journey, and I'm a
little sad to be leaving ... but very excited about my new work.

With gratitude and great appreciation for this amazing community,

- LadyBee"
