Nature vs. Nurture?

Post by Max Burke » Fri Oct 17, 2008 12:37 pm

Do you think there are certain portions of your brain that you have explored enough that will reflect back enough information for you to reply upon or is there some element you feel is missing in the process of thinking that develops and helps sustain new ideas?

This will make no sense once the LSD wears off.

I believe theres a massive untapped potential in our noggins. a lot of being nature, and a lot of nurture - so both.

Sorry, 007, I can't agree. Brain tissue is expensive, it has to be kept warm, and takes a lot of energy to operation. Also, the fact that we have such big heads as babies, puts our mothers and ourselves at risk when we are born. You better believe that evolution didn't give us any more brain than we needed. Some of us may be able to use our brain more efficiently in some areas with the proper training, but there's no secret stash of grey matter just waiting for us to tap into it.

heehehehee...Now this is something I actually know something about!~

According to independant, national and universal testing. The human brain grows fastest and absorbs the most amount of knowledge at 2 ages....
approximately 1-3 yrs old and again at approx. 9-12 yrs of age.

thats all you get...be careful...hahaaa

The frontalis portion of the grey matter is absorbing information and learning at such a alarming rate that the body leads all its energies into growing brain tissues and sanopes(Sp?) in the frontalis region of the head. namely your forehead! So when people who have larger forheads always complaine, wear longer bangs etc.... They should actually be quite proud.

The other side of that is the possibilities that a skull has hardened beyond slight movement....hmmm....maybe this is why some people suffer Migraines.

boy was this a bunch of cliff claven useless info...actaully this on is more interesting at least.
Names pinemom, but my friends call me "Piney".

interesting ...

i have a small head, and get migraines ... hmmmm...

but i'm pretty sure they are caused more by chemical changes, hormonal changes, that sorta thing (at least, in my case).

now, brain chemicals .... errrr, i mean, chemicals added to the brain ... the ones that *supposedly* kill brain cells ... i wonder how they fit into all of this...

At a guess, to get us out of the "external gestation" phase of infancy and into some sort of functioning child hood, and then to get us from late childhood into early adulthood, when you have to learn a whole bunch more pertaining to taking care of yourself and functioning in a group outside your family. But I'm sure that there's a ton of research to be done and that the theorizing would make almost all of us dizzy.

Not to mention if the brain were fully developed at birth, the baby's head would be so big it would kill the mother in childbirth.

And then there are other questions.
Does sudden artistic output result from new ability or a focus on skills already there?

There was a show on the science channel about the brain called 'Losing Control' about this and a woman who lost some of the ability to read expressions and experienced fearlessness and strong sexual impulses after damage.

Fearlessness and strong sexual impulses?

I think that I - bumped into her at the last burn.
