I don't have a lot of time to hang out and post these days. Deadlines loom, and at my workplace we are looking at a 5% layoff (that's the good news -- it could have been worse). So I'll just drop two quick items in here:
1. Taxes. Mine are likely to increase, and they should. Not because I like to waste money, but because I want to make things better for my country.
2. CA Prop 8. Just vote NO. Although I'm straight, and I've been married for 25 years, I can tell you exactly what the "gay agenda" is. They want to be treated as ordinary people, with all of the rights and responsibilities of ordinary people.

Glad you weren't among the 5%.
Thanks for your support for NO on Prop 8.

I posted that, reportedly, a huge problem would land on the new president's desk as soon as he got to washington. I figured that it would be an austerity package forced on us by our creditors. There has been another possibility presented. It sounds somewhat doubtful though.

Sounds way too "conspiracy theory" to me. I'm still putting it in the category of "no man ever on the moon; who really killed kennedy, et.al.". Hope I'm right!

yeah, I'm with JK.
Anything is possible, but..........
As much as I love conspiracy theories, I think the reality is most governments and agencies therein, are so bureaucratic and inept, they couldn't pull off most of what is feared from them, in that sense.......I think they're way more reactionary, not proactive.

the problem with history is that it is a series of conspiracies strung together to form a random whole.
it'll be china....make no mistake....
they've been prepping you (the general public) for years...
and soon, very soon, we will get into a tepid war with the chinese...
then we dont have to pay them what we owe them.
kinda cool, huh.

I just don't think we'll get into any war tepid or otherwise with China as an excuse to default on what we owe them. The results would have a catastrophic negative impact on our relationships with countries reverberating around the world.DVD Burner wrote:

WAR WITH CHINA???
I just don't see it happening. The US is disintegrating right now. China doesn't have to take any overt action. They don't have to dump US bonds. They don't have to do anything. They badly need our food exports. We can live without their "stuff" but not their bond purchases. Our military is shot all to hell. Any serious attack on China would have to be with ICBMs. A dose of radioactivity and a nuclear winter won't help anyone.
The US is flat on it's back,,, same with europe. Last 3rd quarter, Volvo Corp sold 45, 635 class 7 trucks. This 3Q, they sold 155. GB , reportedly can't afford to fuel up their military ships. This coming fiscal year, the US has to come up with $4.7 trillion extra to finance itself.
The bond market is just about to blow,,, same with CDOs and other derivatives. The world is catching on to the fact that treasuries aren't as safe as they used to be. If you look at FED borrowing, it's obvious that GOV is flat broke.
The US produces 44% of it's own oil. It's strategic needs run to 67% . I suppose that that includes military , farmers and powerplants. Canada might continue to ship oil if we default. Who knows?
Investors have quit buying long bonds. If they quit buying short bonds, the game is over. GOV is already laying off postal employees for the first time in history. I seriously doubt that GOV will initiate a war when it already has 2 unfinished wars to begin with.

Vote No on Measure Q (Marin Sonoma)

Prayer does in fact work. Pray for life. Bald Eagles, Marbled Murrelets, Spotted Owls, Coho Salmon, California Clapper Rails, Salt Marsh Harvest Mice...all will be imperiled if the SMART train, measure Q is voted in. The Eel River will be severely impacted by train freight and gravel mining if the train is perceived as an environmental benefit. It is not.

Questions raised over Syrian complicity in US raid
Syria has denounced a US strike on its territory but sources say Damascus secretly backed the raid
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/w ... 062848.ece
Marie Colvin and Uzi Mahnaimi
The 38-year-old farmer was watering his maize in the scrubby vastness of eastern Syria when four Black Hawk helicopters swooped in low over the palm trees, heading from the border with Iraq formed by the Euphrates River.
It was late afternoon. The light was fading and the chill of the desert winter night was setting in. The helicopters, following their leader in a disciplined arc, hovered just above the one-storey concrete and mud homes of the village of Sukariyeh before the attack began.
Two of them landed next to a ramshackle building site and uniformed men hit the ground firing. Two other helicopters gave aerial cover.

OK So let's take out half of the world--hell, let's take out all of the world except for North America; and we then incorporate Canada and Mexico as new states. Then we only have to worry about interior terrorists and nut jobs? And a government that would foment such a plan?Simon of the Playa wrote:fine, dont believe me, it's no skin off my nose...
