Listening to NPR, someone prefering McCain because Obama didn't have his hand over his heart while reciting the pledge.

WTF? Mindless patriotic gestures are the most serious qualification for president? Woof.

Not much of a rant. I waited too long.

i had NBC on awhile ago ... listened for a good 15 minutes of obama fawning ... all about his grandmother, and his rise into politics, wedding photos, on and on and on ... made me want to throw up.

i wonder how long it will take for them to drop the whole worship thing.

it's hard to rant while being amusing, fishy! or to be amusing while ranting ... simon is damn good at it, though.

I'd say some will gloat, kids in the play yard laughing when someone falls and skins their knee.......picking on the small kid and feeling good about themselves........

some will be magnanimous, maybe even gracious........

I'd guess which will be what........

Being disenfranchised from both parties, I didn't really care who won......

But, this will be a good test for those who've been harshly judgmental for many years.

If the Dems don't make our country a veritable utopia, as has been implied they would..........well, they may just be humans after all......

I hope they can, for, ultimately, I want us to live in a great country.

If not, there's always the next election........

So, lets drink.........

Good Job America, I'm proud of my Country today in ways i was'nt before.

It truly was Historic, and whether you are Democrat or Republican, at the end of the day we are all Americans, and thats the most important thing if we are to face and solve the problems that lay before us.

it sounds corny, but i too shed a tear briefly knowing that at least we are now truly on our way to a colorblind Nation.

McCain mentions Obama in his defeat speech: Booooos!

Obama mentions McCain in his victory speech: Yeaaaaa!

I dislike poor losers and un-humbled winners

Obama's speech was greatest speech I had ever heard!

I enjoyed your post, it mirrors my feeling too. I spent the night at a party in Hollywood and the excitement, joy, tears, were overwhelming. Then this morning I get this email from a black friend of mine that recently moved back to Alabama.

It didn't hit me until this morning, the new dawn. MY mother was rejoicing last night, and I couldn't really understand why she was being so "extra". I mean I did, but I didn't. Most of you who know me, know that I am from the deep south, Alabama. I walked outside this morning, and I honestly a different feeling in the air. I strong sense of pride, a sense of responsibility, a sense of hope and also a sense of tension. I live at home now, back in Alabama, and I am so happy to just be home, moreover, I am simply proud to witness this extroadinary moment in a place that has cried for so long for this Dream come true.

Anyways, as I walked to my car before sunrise, (now I live in the woods in a very white community), and I was scared that someone was going to run out with some white robe and try to lynch me. I was half way serious about this concern. As I got in the car, and begin to drive down the street, my eyes filled with tears, because I began to realize why my mother, my grandmother, oprah, Jesse Jackson , bith who I saw in tears last night, were so emotional. They fought hard for this. They fought long and hard for this. And we are still fighting. We won guys. Not just because a Black man in historically leading and representing our nation ( i can't believe I just typed that), but because, that dream of Martin Luther King, Rosa Parks, The Black Panthers, all African American groups, organized and un organized, the group of students who were turned away fron the Universty of Alabama, Emmit Till, little girls who were bombed on the steps of a Damn church in Birmingham, Al for God's sake; this is the end of the war that they have fought for years. I thanked my mother this morning for fighting for me. I Thanked my parents for not giving up even though they were not fortunate enough financially, consequently by circumstances such as the color of there skin during the time, to attend college. But they had pride, and believed in a Dream, ignited by a leaders of thier time, to work, vote, raise me right, make decent choices, taking advantage of what little oppertunity were sifted out for them, to allow me, you to witness this day. Moreover, to own businesses, to drink water from the same fountain, to go to school, go the to retaraunts, malls have TV and radio staions, and so much more...To have a voice, loud enough to to earn a Black President. Wow, again, I can't belive I typed that.

SOOOO, when I got to the gym, I was in tears, and I didn't think I could concentrate on a workout, and I also had a bad feeling about what I was about to witness. I walked in wiping my eyes, and the front desk girl didn't give me that warm Alabama Good Mornin' that I usually get. I thought, I'm just tripping she's just busy, Jacinda, don't start judging. Then, I walk to the treadmill to get into my 5 minute warm up, and from this angle, I could see the reactions on people's faces, as they watched CNN, and I began to feel like an outcast. They were pissed guys. Pissed!!! I began to tear up again, as I witnessed how my parents must have felt years ago, when they went out into the public. Still, people, who normally, give me a warm welcome when I am at the Gym, (the YMCA, A Christian ORganization I might add), looked at me with a deep anger, and could not look me in the eye. I said to myself, no, your'e not imaginging things. This is real. Again, I contemplated leaving. Let me say the this is a predominately white gym, and I was the only Black person in the in gym at the time, and often am.

So, I got off of the treadmill, and moved over to the free weights, where I normally work out with the guys, cause hey I lift pretty heavily these days, and I do you know what they said as I picked up my weights? The normally flirtatious white men, who tell me how impressed they are with my skills as a trainer and athlete, who often invite me out to church, bars and what not, bagan to talk loudly about moving to Mexico. That they can't live in a country ran by a nigger. I said to myself. Jacinda don't leave; hold your head up the Black community, for the UNITED states of Amereica, for all of the people who sacrificed for this moment. For you parents who witnessed this type of treatment and behavior growing up. For Martin Luther King JR"s life who was sacrificed; stay here. Don't let them run you off.

I ended up leaving though after my warm up set. though. Not because of fear or anger, but because of Joy. I was over come with Elation, Hope, Pride and I couldn't wait to get it out. I said I jsut have to email all of my friends, family and associates all from so many backgrounds, thank God. I have to tell them was happened to me.. And what they may be up against today as they walk out into this New Day. This truley changed country. This historical day. Now because I've lived in such liberal states for the past 8 years, Most of you who wake up in California might not witness, such a strong sense of resistance as I have in Alabama. But either way, Be proud. Undertand what is going on from this day forward. Who died and scarificed for this. Thank all of our your elders, mothers fathers, Uncles and aunts who carried this burden on them for so long, that was lifted last night.

Martin luther KIng said that he had a dream, that one this nation would rise up, "that men woulf not be judged by the colr of thiere skin, but by the content of thier character." Our President, was the a representation of this dream come true.

I gotta speed it up, becasue I have to get to work. But there is a saying that a dear friend has quoted to me about success. It it says in part and I paraphrase, that one of the greatest reasons for failure, is to inability to recognize the impermanance of everything. That statement gets mr through all of hard times, and the reason that I have so much more hope for my own life these days. But I say that to say that, Our fore fathers recognized this phenomenon, which has given birth to this day. They know that "A Change Was Gone Come". This was a song that serenaded the movement Covil Rights movement just 40 years ago. And what do oyu know, this was the Motto for our presidents Campaign, "The Change We Need"... I gotta go!

But I quickly just want to challenge, specifically black people, to contribute to this change. It doesn't stop now. It begans here. The Dream came true last night, and it is real today.

1. I am going to start by refraining from using the "N" word
2. And cutting down on this ignorant hip hop music culture that misreprents Black Men, and Women and such a awful way.

I wish I could go into that more, but I gotta go. Most of you you know what I mean by second plan of action..it's pretty obvious. But what I wish you guys could do right now, And I NEVER do this chain letter crap, but if you would send this out, and simply ask your friends and peers to "LIST" their plan of action to contribute to this New Society, to continue this change......What are you going to do?

We would have; we did.

While the results were coming in, we did boo every time a state was called for McCain; and we did cheer when a state came in for Obama and we cheered wildly when Obama won.

BUT, the difference is that when Obama spoke of McCain in his speech, we also cheered for McCain when Obama praised him as a good American and for his service to our country.

THAT WAS NOT THE CASE WITH THE REPUBLICAN CROWD WHEN MCCAIN TRIED TO COMPLIMENT OBAMA FOR HIS VICTORY. IT IS UNDISPUTIBLE. JUST PLAY BACK THE FOOTAGE--MEAN SPIRITED SORE LOSERS.

sorry, JK ... i have seen a lot of concession speeches, and the losing side almost always boos the winning side...

you always, always think you know what *would* have happened ...

in fact, had mccain won, obama would almost certainly not have conceded, and the democrats would be busy trying to steal the election, just like they did in 2004. kerry stopped it then, to his credit... but it took him a little while, and his supporters were not happy about it. i almost wanted obama to win just to avoid another such scene ... i am very relieved to-day...

but you ... you are so blinded by partisanship ...

emotion and politics are a dangerous combination, IMO.

but i do hope you enjoy your day ... and now, you can get back to work!

There are actually two ironies here:

1. The strongest support for Prop 8 was from minority women--black and hispanic.

2. Prop 2 passed--CA voters cared more about the rights of farm animals than they did for equal rights for marriage.

I too, thought that was interesting.

It's also interesting to note that Washington passed a suicide referendum. So now, a doctor can kill me in that state, but getting married (assuming it's another male) would be out of the question.
