hey all~

this will be my first year at burning man (YAY!) ive been meaning to go for going on 3 years now but this is the first year i actually will be able to. the thing that ive been thinking of most is camps- i know tons of people going and they all want to know what camp im going to be in. the only one if heard of is the VW bus camp (since i drive a vw bus) but other than that, im in the shallow end of the pool. so, im asking here! what camps are your favorites? why? how elaborite to camps get? heres what im looking for: a camp that is really FUN with alot of comunity, one thats about a 6-8 on the activity-events-loudness scale, nudity and sexuality are a definate OK, small to moderate in size(? how well do you get to know your campmates? how big are the camps?)
and anything else i need to know about camps, TELL ME! im very very new at this and very, very, very , VERY excited.

How about "Camp satireDUN"? I heard it's rocking and the people ain't so bad either. Seriously, did you try the camps page on the burningman front page. Did you look or ask in the regional section of the eplaya. And there's more

Satire,
There is no hard-n-fast rewl about where, why or how to get into a camp. My advice is to start networking NOW, hook up with people you like in Reality Camp, participate in the preparations of that camp, and you'll be in like Flynn when the time comes.
Otherwise, just blow into BRC, talk to the Greeters, and they'll tell you where a good spot to park your tent at. In no time at all, you either will find a wonderful group of people to move in with, or you'll meet your neighbors and still have a wonderful time.

In the outside world, if you can't find a Community, you create your own. In BRC, you're walking into a Community, now its up to you to make it yours.

ok, that makes sense..i would start my own camp if i had more people, but i really would like to be part of a larger comunity.
it looks like there will be 4 newbies and 2 people id like to camp with.

...one way to pad the numbers in your theme camp would be to inaugurate "Multiple Personality Camp"....

You don't need to join a theme camp to fully participate in Burning Man. Most people are not in "official" theme camps. Some of the most interesting camps are not official theme camps - Pink's comes to mind. Just bring your friends, try to get there early in the week, and set up your camp.

Ya know that you could do worse if you were to show up, set-up, and then just go and explore. If you want to do something in particular, plan for it. Focus on what you're going to need to survive a week in the desert (don't forget about the +100 mph winds, rain, and dust getting into everything), and then see what you have room, energy and money for. You don't have to hit a ball out of the park first time at bat.

I'd say that the first burn is a damn good opportunity to just be exposed and inspired.

Remember, if you look for it--you'll probably find it.
