Well I stayed on the top floor in 98--I wanted to see if they'd kick you out if you spit on the monorail.

Surprisingly, no. They didn't seem to notice....

Every year since 1999. And Barbie Death Camp & Wine Bistro will not be back in 2009. Rather, it will have grown to Barbie Death Village with Barbie Death Camp, Barbie Wine Bistro, Eden, and Black Rock City Body & Paint as it's founding four camps. We are looking for two or three more.

1986 - by accident, stumbled upon the bonfire. It was my 26th birthday.
I remember the day and the birthday well (it was an emotional one) but the burn vaguely, as does my girlfriend at the time. We talked about it years later. We had come over from the Marin Headlands on that unseasonably warm June night. Someone mentioned that they had burned some effigies, and that they had been doing this on the solstice for awhile. I am sure I probably said, "Fuck yeah, I'll come down here every year on my birthday! I had a keg of beer in the VW bus, along with four other folks.

My bad, I thought it was on Baker Beach, where we wound up. Someone was there burning a rather big bonfire, I remember that, and my old girl friend remembers the effigy comment, because when she brought it up years later, she thought I should have burned one of my former girlfriend. (One of the emotional reasons stated earlier.) Might also explain why we never ran into them on the following years, because we always went over to Ocean Beach for solstice bonfires.

Hmm too bad, I was kinda hoping I had that serendipitous encounter. Oh well, I did stay in a Holiday Inn Express once, though.

OK, 2006-2008 not by accident.

You may be right.
All I remember is that it was only a short time before BM went from Baker to Stinson then to the playa.

Twas August 99 and Engine 38 was fighting the Smoke Creek Complex Fire. The range was burning and there was a ton of traffic - way more then we ever have experienced on Jungo and Smoke Creek roads respectively.

I stopped at Brunos for diesel in the engine (was pissed that it was 220 or so a gallon) met one of the ESD chiefs for BM and started talking shop. It was burn day, so he comped us tix as we were headed home for a mandatory 2 days off. Since wildland engines are covered in camping gear, food, fuel, water, and clothes we had all we needed. We were already covered in dust as well sow e fit right in!

Best weekend of my life. - Been hooked since.

Same here! :) 2009 will be my third (although I had a ticket and was ready to go in '05, but the vehicle broke down the day we were set to leave  )

What's this I saw earlier in this thread about a Meet'n'Greet? I'd love a chance to meet my fellow ePlayans!

That's a cool story :) Nothing neat like that ever happened on my VFD. Well, there was the one time when a tanker driver forgot to set the parking brake (it was a manual trans) and it rolled downhill and crashed into a mobile home......

Yo Sattelite5812! The Annual ePlaya/3playa Meet & Greet is held every year on Thursday at 6 p.m. at Barbie Death Camp & Wine Bistro. Previously we have been located approximately at 3:30 and C, give or take a block in either direction. We will be hosting it again in 2009, but should be much easier to find since we will be Barbie Death Village and thus actually be shown on the map. Looking forward to seeing everyone again.

Thanks, Doc!

I've been trying to visit your camp these last couple of years, but never quite seem to make it (so much to do and see, y'know). I'll make sure that 3rd year's a charm!

See you on the Playa!
~Luna

P.S. For our local Decom this Saturday we're recreating BRC; from what I'm hearing there will be a mutilated-Barbie tribute to the Death Camp & Wine Bistro

Yeah, and he looks like he's about to CANE one of them!

Hmmm... a naked clown on a pogo stick and some folks about to set off a cannon-- yep! Looks like Burning Man!

You know, I am still trying to figure out how I found the Meet & Greet... maybe because it was near the JOTS...? (Good planning, having it near the toilets!)
