People take second life pretty seriously. It really is a second life for them.

I've heard of people divorcing over finding the other looking at porn or having cybersex in chat rooms. So I guess this is just as possible :?:

No different than Everquest or World of Warcraft divorces.

Where people find the time to immerse themselves in something like second life more then in the default world is beyond me. Between work, fixing up the damn house so I can try and sell it for a loss :( and the occasional college football game, I just dont have alot of time to devote to something like second life (which I have delved into a bit) or games etc. I guess I need my sleep, maybe thats where they find the time, IDK.
Excuse me Ma'am, your going to feel a small prick.

Well, for a lot of people, it's just their hobby. Doing a little here and there in the spare time.

It's becoming more common, though, that people are getting addicted to it. There are several rehab centers now that deal with internet-related stuff, including MMORPG addiction

I did a paper on it last year and anonymously used one of my friends here as an example. On *one* of his 5-6 serious characters on WoW he's logged over 200 days worth of online time. Wasted more than half a year of his life playing the game.

Am I real...? Well, I don't know why anyone would want to pretend to be me!

I can't play Second Life or any of those-- my computer is too old. At one time I thought about getting on Second Life and trying to set up a role playing game-- so all the Second Life characters would sit around a table and play D&D or some other game... people pretending to be people pretending to be someone else! (I think that "the Office" may have topped that idea when they had Dwight set up Second Second Life in Second Life.)

I couldn't imagine spending that much time playing a game

I get the wii out and can barely handle 20 minutes before I am bored

I am actually quite fond of Second Life. It dispenses with the game play and goes right for the socializing. I have traded real world art with people I met on SL and discovered some kick ass new music.

It is more like a three dimensional chat room than a game. Users can also create original content that is persistent in the world, so it is visible to others even after you log off. I expect that we are moving from text-based virtual lives(like eplaya) into 3-D virtual lives. (Myspace and Facebook would be 2-D)

I am very impressed with the incredible amount of money the creators are making selling real estate and advertising on their servers.
I can't help wondering how much of their time and wealth is spent in the game versus the supermegahyperhidef real world (now in 3D too).
